This is great news. I also liked Tyke a lot. Perhaps Tyke will be the OC in the future.

We will see how good of a coach Meyer is without Tebow, and the losses on his staff.

Does this mean that BG will be in charge of installing all of our passing plays. That would be a strange arrangement.

Does anyone have an idea of what a "passing game coordinator" does?

So if Crowton is still here he would be calling the offense that BG installs?

The passing aspect of it, yes. It's not uncommon for teams to have run game and pass game coordinators. They usually have a particular position to coach in addition to their responsibilities as coordinators. Teams run things differently. Sometimes the PG coordinator or RG coordinator will call the shots, but if there's an offensive coordinator on the staff, he usually makes the final call. Consider the OC as head coach of the offense.

Todd Monken was LSU WR coach/passing game coordinator in 2005 and 2006.

And he didn't call the passing plays to my knowledge. That's what I'm saying: Sometimes you get these positions, and coaches make them out to be more than they really are.

Unless something else comes up, we should consider the passgame coordinator title as a way to get him extra cash.

Passing game coordinator means he will focus on the receivers and the QBs in practice drills. It has nothing to do with play-calling other than being involved in developing the gameplan, which all offensive assistants are involved in.

Really it's just a title to look like a semi-promotion from his position at Florida. When some school down the road is looking to hire an OC and they look back on Gonzales' resume, they will like that title, as we would right now if that was his title at Florida.

Right to an extent--and I know this is completely different from major college football--but there is a local team here in Kansas that has co-coordinators, one with the running game, the other with the passing game, and they consult one another after every play.

Really? Didn't they win a NC with Leak at QB? yeah, as great as Tebow is....he isn't the team.

There's another one like that in Washington, D.C. Well, except for the "consult one another" part.

It's comical, but hey, they made the 5A playoffs. Albeit, they were thrashed in the first round. I shouldn't say they "consult one another," because that sounds serious. They have the same play cards, and they're usually on the same page, but they'll talk about it every now and then. I watched one game, and they're basically side by side on the sidelines. Always talking to one another.

I still say there has to be more to the Billy Gonzales hire than him just coaching the WR's. I just don't see him making a lateral move to LSU from Florida.

I know people will say and have said that he was pissed at UM and left because he didn't get the job there. Well if that is the case why would he come to LSU in the same capacity? I would think he would move to another university in the OC position. There has to be more to it!
