Says that the Saban deal will happen and that they are also taking Alabama's chancellor, Robert Witt.

Powers(UT president) is out with Brown. A lot of political infighting between him and Rick Perry. Long story.
Robert Witt was previously the Dean of Ut business school and president over UT system. So there is prior history there.

This rumor actually makes sense. From what I've heard over the last few years Dr Witt is the only one at Bama that Saban "deals" with. He doesn't answer to the BOT, the AD, or anyone else. Just Witt.

So it would stand to reason that if he were to go to UT he would want Witt as the President there. Would make the transition a whole lot smoother.

Powers wants to turn UT Into Michigan: smaller enrollment, research institution, etc

Perry wants less strict entrance requirements, online classes.

I was told powers idea will win

I was told that Wallace hall may get impeached and that powers may be ok.

Texas already is pretty much Michigan. In-state tuition is right at $10,000. Perry says it should be less. It's very hard to get into the university, even for state residents. In higher education you have North Carolina, Virginia, Cal, Michigan, and Texas: they have their own universe.

Perry's reforms would ensure that Texas would lose that standing. Doesn't mean Perry's wrong to make them -- look, I loathe the guy, and I think it's all about politics -- just that the decision is about what the university will be.

Who'll win is a political matter. Perry makes appointments to the Regents. So far, he has a minority. We'll see.

It's very hard to have rational conversations about higher ed. Misinformation abounds. Right-wingers (not all conservatives) hate universities because they tend to be liberal pretty much all over the world. It's also true that faculty want to protect their turf: if you were hired at Texas on the assumption that you'd do lots of research, sudden changes would really hurt. I doubt anyone's seriously stepping back and looking at the whole system of higher ed in Texas and what's the value of having a single flagship academic institution.

(There's no putdown of A&M here, which is a fine school but with a somewhat different mission.)

Isn't there a state law that allows any high school student in the top 10% of their class to get automatic admission to any state school?

I love the way scubafeet relies "He gone" to chicken, when chicken has a stickied thread saying, "No more 'He gone.'"

Based on what's publicly available, admission to Texas is "very" hard, but it ain't Rice. They admit under 50%, which is low for a state school -- not as low as UNC or Michigan. USNews has it as "more selective."

No state income tax.

Property taxes can be crazy but no state income.

Just a thought that taxes could be a deciding factor on Sabans decision. Although with that amount of cash he wouldn't feel it so much.

I don't care about Nick Saban. Honestly I could give two, three, or ten sh**s about what he does. I would LOVE if he left Alabama though. Not to get him out of the SEC, hell he could take over any other SEC school he wants. Gumps can't suffer enough though and I would love seeing them go from powerhouse to the SEC outhouse for years to come. Because let's face it, if Saban leaves that team is screwed for at least 5 years+. I don't care who they bring in.

You don't care what he does, but you'd LOVE it if he left? Well, that makes all the damn sense in the world.

And you should probably see a therapist about all that hate you have for a random group of people.

Saban has enough talent stockpiled where I could coach Bama to 10 wins for the next 5 years.
