re: Michigan's "Hot Board" of Coaching candidates (including Miles)

There isnt a school in the country that would have held on to him.
RR has been highly successful every where he has coached before Michigan and after Michigan. He was changing the Michigan style of play and recruiting a different type of player than Michigan had gone after before. That takes time. Michigan pulled the trigger after three years. Stupid thing to do given what RR was trying to do. The Michigan success in 2011 showed that RR was on the right track with his recruiting.

Dan Mullen, head coach Mississippi State Bulldogs
Why it makes sense: It's not easy to win in Starkville, and this season Mullen has the Bulldogs primed to make the CFB Playoff series this winter and compete for the first national championship in school history. He's shown a history of developing quarterbacks under Urban Meyer at both Utah and Florida and is likely to be one of the hottest names in coaching circles this off-season.
Why it doesn't make sense: Mullen's recruiting style, including a recent incident where they attempted to "lower" a player's scholarship offer from a basic one to a "greyshirt" are the types of things Michigan looks to avoid. It's not the first time it's been done by his staff, either. Until this season, Mullen's success was very limited, and he has a very, very senior-laden team this year. It may be a situation where his stock will never be higher.
Laughing at this when in the same article they have Les who did this very thing to his team's current starting center, not to mention the early enrolling OL that got bumped and then went on to Auburn.

I dont think you understand how bad his Michigan teams were. His 3 years were the worst 3 years for defense in the history of the school. They were also trending in the wrong direction. He was gott his arse kicked my State in the only bowl he could make.
While the next year bodes well for his case, the main reason they got better was a rapid improvement on the defensive side of the ball, and an almost unheard of luck on the field. Think they averaged +15 in TOs.

Rivals also has a hot board. Miles is not even on it. But guess who is: Sean Payton.

Cam Cameron Age 53
Cameron spent the first ten years of his career at the University of Michigan, where he learned from long-time Wolverine coach Bo Schembechler. After two years as a graduate assistant, he became Michigan's youngest assistant and was responsible for tutoring quarterbacks and receivers (WRs 1986-1989, WRs/QBs 1990-1993). He coached many future NFL players, including Jim Harbaugh, Elvis Grbac, Todd Collins, Amani Toomer, Derrick Alexander and Heisman Trophy winner Desmond Howard.[3] Cameron served as an assistant at Michigan alongside future head coaches Lloyd Carr, Gary Moeller, Les Miles, and Mike DeBord. His fellow graduate assistant was Mike Trgovac, who is currently the defensive line coach of the Green Bay Packers, after serving six years as the defensive coordinator of the Carolina Panthers.
Miles probably says no but probably taps Cameron as the man of the moment. I could see Miles politicking for Cam at Michigan.

Payton is on it because he wore a UM hat at a UM event and ate a hot dog

Except that he was 18-37 in 5 years at Indiana. That's roughly 3-4 wins per year. He didn't elevate Indiana as a head coach. And he was 1-15 as an NFL head coach. Kinda screams "not head coaching material."

1. It's gonna be difficult for any HC to win consistently at Indiana. It's a basketball school. It's where they put their emphasis.
2. Saban left Cameron an absolute shitshow in Miami when he departed.
I'm not necessarily saying you're wrong about Cameron...he may not be HC material. But his track record does have extenuating circumstances, and I think he will eventually get another look at some point.

What a fricking joke list.
Miles is the only realistic candidate.

I believe if Mich could get Miles, they would. They can't afford to take any more chances. They need a proven HC. He's in a tough league. And there are too many big schools competing for a HC to screw around.

Our stupid fan base that wants him fired after every game win or lose.

I agree with this. Michigan was stupid for getting rid of RR. His record each got better, while Hoke'e got worse.

if the RR firing was due to the higher ups telling him to get a legit DC to fix that shite and he refused? i can understand
by basically every account, this did not occur and the "michigan man" good ole boy system literally did everything it could to have him fail
people think that LSU fans complaining about miles doing stupid shite, absolutely failing to recruit/develop a HS QB, or lying to put blame on players is bad, but we've never been guilty of anything close to that

CLM is the best choice for Michigan of the candidates listed in some of these articles. He is a proven winner, recruiter, program administrator, etc. The only true negatives are his age (61), personality (goofy) and buyout (significant).
The pie in the sky candidate lists for the schools with current openings are ridiculous - look at what Florida (McElwain) and Nebraska (Tressel, Frost or something worse) will likely end up with as a HC. You gotta think that Michigan would properly evaluate the thing and come to the conclusion that Miles truly is the ideal fit (negatives listed above aside).
I don't necessarily want CLM to leave (really don't), but if he isn't offered the job this time around it is a huge mistake on Michigan's part.
