Pretty sure we covered this already, but okay. You're spot-on.

quote:

secondly, the fact we have to depend on two coordinators and not just one since O cannot coach one side of the ball actually places more stress on O to win and win now!

I feel like you all probably would've expected ANYone to win NOW. I don't think it's different for O.

I totally agree that the "search process" was laughable. I just don't think you're going to be in the sinking ship that some of you guys do.

Ironic, isn't it?

I can only speak for myself, but until he wins a title of some sort, I'll remain skeptical. I was not in favor of firing Les Miles to continue to tap out at 10-3.

Yes, I still dislike the O hire

Waiting on Kiffin
Screwing around recruits
Being influenced by a message board
Hiring Ponamsky
Losing track record in the SEC
Being the only coach not to score on Bama (at home)
Losing to UF at home

Still makes me very concerned

Not going to say I like the O hire. But I am going to pray that he does well either way.

Would you dislike it if you had your current OC/DC and he was your HC?

Well I know a lot of UGA fans who felt it was very lazy hire. And they went with someone who loved their school, etc
Sounds very familiar.

I know I will enjoy Orgeron's brand of football more than I did the past three years of Miles.

We have two of the best coordinators in the country and a guy who will let them do their jobs. For that alone I am excited.

Don't dislike Coach O, nor do I blame him for chasing his dream job. I blame our lazy arse AD for not doing his job. Again. And his boss who doesn't hold him accountable for being incompetent/lazy.

Coach O could go undefeated for 3 years and half this fanbase would find something to bash him over. Hell, we could have hired Saban or Meyer and they would have found a reason to gripe over that.

not really. I had previously stated in another thread any coach could come in here and we will lose some games next year for obvious reasons. knowing if we had a HC who could call one side lowers the anxiety levels knowing if a coordinator bolts we only need to really fill one side of the ball. The way we are setup screams urgency win now at all costs because these guys will not be here long IMO.

I definitely do not see us returning to hallman like or dinardo like years. WE had crap facilities and spent no money then. Times have changed. standards have been rasied. O will have winning records. But, so did miles. i've said it before and i will say it again. With the talent and facilities and money we have now a blind monkey could win 7 games a year here. That monkey could go 7-6 minimum every year.

I fully expect us to match the average wins miles gave us. The real question is all about hardware. Will we win the west once every 3 years which is all we asked of miles? Miles could not do that. Miles would have needed 3 west titles in 9 years. instead he had that in almost 12 years basically.

The real stat is miles won 2 of those 3 in his first 3 years here thanks to saban talent. His last 8.5 or 9 years (if you want to use whole year he was fired) he won just ONE west title. huge downtrend.

Yes, for reasons already stated in this thread.

You expect CEO to win more than 75% of his games? You're more optimistic than me.

Still way too early to tell, but outside perceptions of LSU certainly have fallen.

You say this as though the complaints expressed against Coach O are unreasonable.

All anyone said is that someone that will be heavily reliant on his offensive coordinator might want to make a hire as soon as possible. Then we hear of him saying he's going to wait. That was a mistake on his part.

We know why he wanted to wait, Kiffin, who would've also been a mistake. Today, we got a good result, but I cannot ignore the questionable process O employed to get to this point.

I dunno, it's as if he tried to marry a stripper, the stripper turned him down and he met a nice girl to settle down with. He got the result right but am I wrong to question his judgment as to who he wanted in the first place? That bad judgment is something that could rear its head later down the line somehow.

Goldrush, I agree with a lot of what you said. However, how many people were griping and moaning over the hire before he even made a decision? I agree that Kiffin would have been a mistake.

I think retaining Aranda and the hiring of Canada are huge for us. It just seems that no matter what O does, he can't win with a large section of our fanbase.

Looks like he's done an admirable job with his DC and OC picks. Personally, I think y'all should be feeling MUCH better.

And heck, be glad Kiffin went elsewhere.

Well it sounds like Aranda's next move would likely be to the NFL, so as long as we paid him a lot of money (which we did), his chances of staying at LSU were high. Not sure how O gets credit for that, but maybe I'm missing something there.

On Canada, O made it clear that he wanted Kiffin, and we looked pretty foolish pursuing him when it was clear that he wanted to be a head coach anywhere. O almost fricked up our entire QB recruiting class because he thought Kiffin was in the bag. Hard to not come to that conclusion given the Tua offer right after Kiffin's name became prominent in our search, but if you think I'm mistaken, please elaborate.

On top of that, these things stick out when I ask myself "am I happy with the Orgeron hire?":

- the UF game. This alone made me think that O was out of the running for the job given how sloppy and unfocused we looked
- recruiting isn't exactly on fire. We are striking out on a handful of guys that we need, but there's time to rectify this. Still, recruiting is his calling card, so he can't be fricking up our QB recruiting and losing instate guys to Alabama if our intention is to "compete for championships."
- wishy washy nature of his desired offensive philosophy. Part of me likes O's willingness to adapt when it comes to offense, but he's not creating a very solid image of leadership by going back and forth on the type of offense we are running, especially when offense and the QB position has been our Achilles heel for years.

In summation, I wasn't happy that he was hired originally, and my opinion has not changed. I do like our OC/DC combo, but I expected us to have an elite combo giving the money we had to spend.
