So it's his expert opinion and analysis that there is no scenario in which Kiffin coaches at LSU next year. Meaning that if Kiffin is coaching LSU next year, Herbstreit will have been wrong.

Actually I stand corrected Chicken. But to say he was never going to Michigan is also incorrect. You have no way of knowing that.

Again!

If Cincy just hired Fickell, USF hires Strong & Kiffin does not stay at Bama, does he sit out or come to LSU?

My opinion would be he would come to LSU, but who the hell knows anymore.

Why would he take a lateral job for one season?

Ego and butthurtedness. Beating Saban is easier typed than done, but at this point Kiffen certainly has the want.

(Not a prediction, just a reason why he might.)

If it is true his contract expires in February, what are his options?

Herbie is just talking out of his arse with his opinion. At ESPN, and sports media as a whole, there is no backlash if they are wrong. It's either brushed aside and never mentioned again or some caveat suddenly enters the picture that is used as an excuse.

The reasons Kiffin would come here are multiple. The biggest, imo, even with the Saban seal of approval, he can't land mid major hc jobs right now, so why not go help a friend and further his growth as a man and coach? If he turns around our offense it will be his doing perceptionally and the Saban stigma wouldn't be attached. Padding the resume without Saban. If Sabans seal can't get him hired then he may see that another direction may help or be necessary.

Yep. He was.

Tom Herman agreeing in principle to be LSU's coach...then someone saying "he's going to be LSU's coach"...and then Herman backing out, doesn't make that person wrong. It just didn't happen.

Same thing happened with Bama and Rich Rogriguez. He agreed in principle after Saban turned Bama down the first time. Which caused the famous Saban quote, "I'm not going to be Alabama's coach." Which people say he was lying. He wasn't. He'd already turned Alabama down and Rodriguez agreed in principle. At that time Saban wasn't going to be the coach. He didn't lie when he said that...that is a myth that needs to die.

Situations change. Things stay fluid. What was correct yesterday is wrong today.

What? Do you know what "wrong" means? That is the literal definition of being wrong

Because if he is scraping the bottom of the barrel with FAU why does anyone think that another year at Bama "which it sounds like it is a mutual parting of the ways there" he will get a prominent power 5 gig. But if he did come to LSU and let's say LSU had an explosive offensive output and we did beat Bama "I know probably not too likely" he would be the hottest coach in the country in the same regard as Herman this year. Some prominent power 5 program would come in and swoop him up. It is a small gamble but taking one step back could vault him 3 to 4 steps forward. LSU has the talent to allow him to do that also!!!

Why the frick does Kirk give a shite about where Kiffin is going?

Why the hell are all of these analyst so concerned with what Lane Kiffin does? Bama doesn't want him. What does it matter what he does or where he goes?
