Did Bama go hire unproven D line coach when they were down and out? Hell no. They went for the throat.

If you want to settle for O you will have to shake hands with a ceiling of 9 wins and a lot of 7 and 8 win seasons.

Maybe we should hire you? Obviously, you are better at selecting talent than all of the LSU Admin.
But hey, fire on brotha.

Thanks. If the report is true that alleva has wanted to hire O from day 1 than I do in fact have better judgment than he.

Funny you mentioning hiring. Did Alleva fire miles last year? He wanted to, but was shot down by the last screwing from Jindal.
Who really hired JJones? We know how that played out. Daddy Dale "Yo, Diesel". CTJr "We need OUR man in dere man" Shaq "Man Joe, I love donating all this money to MY school." "I LOVE LSU". " It would be great if we can Coach Jones hired."
So he was strong-armed into that hiring. He had Fisher hired. All of that got screwed up because of others.
Nikki Caldwell Fargas only cares about babies. She was a VERY solid hire looking at her time at UCLA.

I don't like Alleva FWIW.

Exactly my thoughts. I don't care if we hate the guy. I want to win. I want rings. I love coach O. I think he's awesome. But this is a business.

ETA: the people people making the hires have to know this. I think Joe actually has a great head on his shoulders. He has been making the right calls. We would have jimbo and probably be undefeated if Joe wasn't thrawrted by divine intervention.

It's become abundantly clear that a significant portion of our fans don't actually care about winning - they just want a Louisiana personality to lead the program, even if it means 9-3 seasons and annual trips to the Texas Bowl.

Notice how they keep altering the conditions that would determine whether or not Orgeron gets the job. When Orgeron was first introduced as the head coach, everyone was unanimously in agreement that he needed to win a SEC Championship to have a chance at the job.

After the Missouri win, fans started arguing that even with a loss, he should be retained.

Now, you're actually seeing fans state that even with a 3-2 finish, he should be handed the job, because he's "a good fit."

It's unreal.

I'm not saying to hire him or not. We need the best hire for LSU.

To quote Joe Dirt: This is a business not a charity. Maybe one day unicef will get into the coach hiring business and Coach O can get a head coaching job. Until then, we need to hire a proven winner, not give the job to an unqualified DL coach because he's a cajun.

This hire is going to be more or a PR hire than Alleva really having a guy.

Alleva has to go with a big name HC who is popular in the publics eye.

If Alleva chooses to keep O and he doesnt churn out 10 win seasons and the program continues to decline then LSU will be set back a decade.

You have to go with a proven commodity with this hire with a guy who has showed he can win big time games and compete for titles.

Unfortunately for the "keep coach O crowd" Ed O just hasnt done anything significant when hes been the head guy. What he did as interim at USC and LSU isnt going to hold much weight when he ran an Ole Miss team into the ground where the next coaches made them better.

Its amazing that so many on this board want "CEO" and their selling point on him is "he won't do anything." How endearing!

He talks CAJUN! He wants to be here! He'll hire the best coordinators and let them do their jobs. Well shite if he just oversees everybody else, why waste 2 million bucks on a head coach? Just throw that money at the best coordinators. Offensive head coach, defensive head coach and special teams head coach!

When the best selling points you have is the way he talks and how hands off he is.....you haven't picked a winner.

I'm not saying hire O, but he didn't run Ole Miss in the ground. He took over a team with very little talent left by Cutcliffe. He recruited his butt off and brought in some really good talent. His problem was the same as Miles, he didn't let his coaches coach.

Nutt took over a pretty talented team and left them with 59 scholarship players Freezes first year. Yes, 59. That's running a program in the ground.

Has coach O learned and improved. It looks like it, but I don't know about the long term success of wins and losses. What I do know is that if he fails to win games, the next coach will still have plenty of talent to work with. Orgeron and staff will consistently pull top 5 classes. The guy has an eye for Talent. He gave the Honey Badger his first big offer while at Tennessee.

I'm thinking that O would be a good hire if Herman and jimbo stay. Great staff. Get a Helfrich or Applewhite. Let's let it play out and see what happens. Enjoy the upcoming games. GEAUX MOTHERfrickING TIGERS !

To be fair, Bama went all in on shitty Rich Rodriguez and got turned down.
