Alabama is the most decorated program is CF history. Oregon is new money. USC is the only program on the West Coast that even comes close to being on Bama's level.

It's not that they can't afford it. It is the question of is that price worth paying for him. $20M buyout, probably ~$10-11M salary guaranteed for probably 5-6 years I would bet, and on top of that the rumored $30M stock option that would have to be accounted for somehow if true.

Lanning is a good coach, but he hasn't done much of anything yet. Is that the guy you want to use that kind of money on is the question.

No one even knows if Lanning was offered. Or even contacted. But let's assume he was. Perhaps he really likes the West Coast. Perhaps he doesn't want to be the guy who follows THE GUY. Regardless Bama is one of a handful of blue bloods and Oregon isn't.
