If Bama wants Lanning they’ll pay whatever it takes. Think of how Bama’s brand has improved since Saban nationally. That’s worth a bunch of money to maintain.

You made this connection, not me.

High achievers want to achieve at the highest level. That's not Oregon.

Yes, that is the highest level

Literally not exaggerating. Bama would pay 200 mill if they believe he is the next best coach. Stop this nonsense about Bama not paying his buyout, whatever it is, they will pay it.

BAMA is probably only paying a few coordinators buyouts currently I’d assume from a firing here an there, so they are absolutely loaded. They’ll get who they want

You "literally" are exaggerating. Don't be silly. If Bama had $200M to throw around at the best coach they would offer Kirby $20M/year for 10 years.

I don't see why Sark would leave
Sark seems like the least likely name thats been mentioned. He’s got Texas in position to contend for a title going forward. Texas has more money and resources than anyone. And one natty makes him a legend at Texas, while 2 or 3 natties in Tuscaloosa still has him living in Bear and Saban’s shadows

ROFLMFAO

Oregon can double anything Bama can pay and not even break a sweat over it. The question is, would they just for one mediocre coach.

I don't even remember this but it was referenced on the radio this morning. What was that about?

When he took the head coaching job at FA (or whichever small Florida school it was)

He wasn’t really fired. He had already quit to go to FAU. Saban just thought his loyalties were split leading up to the championship and sent him packing.

Lanning is an obvious choice, he’s young and is familiar with the SEC. But I’d be very leery though of success in the Pac12 compared to success in the more competitive SEC and the $$$ it would take to get him. Seems Norvell would be a better and safer choice.

Oregon can beat any Bama offer on the table. they have Nike behind them. who does Bama have?

Nike is a publicly traded company on the NYSE and the Board of Directors of same are beholding to their stockholders. Besides some NIL deals for advertising purposes, Nike, Inc. is not dumping tons of money into the UO athletic programs. Conversely, Oregon has Phil Knight's money behind them, which is his individual wealth, but it is not Nike's money.

Dabo is the only national championship winner (multi too) and would be going back home. Might make the most sense for this transition?
But NOT our problem. BK is going to strengthen this roster and our coaching staff going forward.

You could not be more wrong.

The odds of following up Saban with Saban-like success is infinitely small.

If Lanning has some kind of stock incentive deal in addition to the $20 M buyout and Bama pays that for a guy that ends up having Miles-like success, it would a huge financial disaster for them.

Why not go with the safer option that doesn't include that financial burden? Especially now, when the players have to be included in the profit sharing.

The post Saban era is likely to unfold very similar to what happened at LSU. And Miles is proof that you don't necessarily need the MOST capable option and have success.

Thank you. The lazy "Nike money" argument has been old for a while. They aren't the university's personal ATM machine.

Yes, Knight has donated a fortune to his alma mater, but the one thing Oregon hasn't done is spend outrageous money on stupid contracts for their coaches.
