Sumlin is a very good coach and he isn't leaving A&M any time soon

Admit what?

It's just remarkable that people think he'd reject all NFL overtures for two years except maybe the Vikings because his wife has family in the area. Lol.

Or that he'd reject USC but take OU.

Sumlin will be at TAMU for at least 3 more seasons. After that he very well might move on to the NFL. That's what people don't get. It's not happening soon.

You are likely correct. However, if the right job comes along, a coach should go ahead and make the jump then, if it's what they really want. No one can tell the future. You can't be certain that opportunity will come up again.

There have been MANY HCs and assistants who were the "hot guy" at one time, but waited to make a move and ended up regretting it. Unforeseen things can happen, and next thing you know, you're out of a job. It happened with Noel Mazonne years ago at Auburn. He was "the next guy." He was a shoe in to get a good HC gig. But he waited, and Tubby wiped out the staff a year or two later (He's still an OC, and a good one, if my memory serves). This almost happened again with Malzahn. If he hadn't left AU when he did (when his stock had already gone down one notch from the previous year), he would have gone down with Chizik's ship like everyone else. Maybe AU would have given him the HC job, but if not, he would have ended up an HC at a low level FCS school, or an OC somewhere else. He's good enough that he probably would make his way back up the ladder, but getting fired or bein part of a fired staff puts your career in neutral at best, and can definitely put it in reverse.

I'm sure A&M fans will just dismiss this, but the future at AU looked bright going forward in 2010. No one saw the bottom completely falling out the way it did. If Sumlin is happy and the NFL isn't a priority, then he should stay a while. But, if the NFL is really his dream, and the Vikings job is the one he wants, he'd be crazy to wait. But that just opinion, obviously, but the past is littered with coaches who I'm sure regret not pulling the trigger when the gun was in their hands.

I don't think he's leaving, but OU is at least credible as opposed to people throwing his name out there for Texas

Never been to Cleveland. Spent about 6-7 months in Oklahoma. There's not many states I wouldn't pick over Oklahoma.

Yeah must suck for Auburn because they're in the NC game this year. Chizik's problem was their QB. They had none.

Sumlin isn't going anywhere. He's denied interview requests with NFL teams and has publicly stated that he wants to honor his full contract at A&M. He's not going to OU.

You haven't followed Sumlin's recruiting at A&M

No Chizk's problem is he is a terrible HC. He was 5-19 in 2 years at Iowa State and his 1 year at Auburn without Gus he was 3-9.

Again back to recruiting. Look at OUs.

They are the program hurt most by A&M in the SEC.

Everyone always says that and because the SEC is the toughest conference it sounds like it makes sense, but there were 4 SEC teams in the top 9, 5 in the top 12 and 7 in the top 25. 9 SEC teams have been in the last 8 BCS CG only 3 of those went in undefeated. 2 years ago the BigXII champ had 1 loss but was behind a 1 loss SEC team that didn't even win its division. So how, exactly is it an "easier" road to the title from the OU?

Of course he'd be crazy to wait. What I'm saying is that Sumlin doesn't want to coach in the NFL right now, regardless of franchise.

It's not like he's tearing it up in the SEC either. You guys took a big step backwards this year and next year he doesn't have Manziel. I'm pretty sure that offense isn't going to be what it was the past 2 years without Manziel. That's a massive loss however you slice it. Evans too. You're getting some good young talent but it takes time for them to develop. OU is already stacked for him with a weak conference.

I don't think he's going to leave but I'm just saying it wouldn't shock me if he did. If Sumlin has another season like this year I'm pretty sure TAMU fans are going to want him on the hot seat. With that atrocious defense and an offense that will inevitably take a step backwards, it's realistic. Strike while your stock is hot.

You're also delusional if you think a guy in his position doesn't want to coach in the NFL. All it takes is the right offer and right place for him. It's VERY rare for a college coach to turn down a HC opportunity in the NFL.

Hes 20-6 in 2 years, yeah the D was terrible, but that's a pretty good record for team that wasn't supposed to compete.

Sumlin's offense at UH was good the year Case Keenum got hurt, they also lost their #2 and #3 QB's. The team did go 5-7, but the offense was still good. And spare me the that was CUSA comments because he did with CUSA players and a 4th string CUSA QB. He players better teams in the SEC and has better talent.

It will be different and next year they may step back, but they have recruited some very good talent. They have a stud QB coming in. Lots of high octane offenses have survived the loss of a special QB and still put up #'s. Whether they can get to the next level will be seen but regardless the offense will put up numbers.

he was a special teams and TE coach then a Co-Oc/ WR coach for the last year of AP's career.

i feel like this relationship is overhyped

That defense hasn't shown any signs of much progression. They have a lot of young talent but you can't expect young talent to develop fast. Their offense will still put up numbers but not like the past 2 years. I think that's an unrealistic expectation considering the megaton loss in JF/Evans. TAMU fans will come back to reality when they realize just how special JF was and how big of a loss they'll recognize next year without him. You can't replace a guy like that.

I think they're going to have another 4+ loss season. They're fortunate they didn't have 5 losses the way that bowl game was going until JF went ham.

I don't think any of this will happen, but I could be wrong. I think its more of a long shot than people assume. Stoops to Cleveland is the biggest hurdle and this entire domino effect depends on that.

ETA: I also don't think Sumlin is quite ready to jump ship @ TAMU.

Goes both ways. We could have easily beat Auburn and Mizzou as well.

We pretty much were who our record implies. A 9-4 team. 3 losses to top 5 teams but no great victories (Ole Miss, Duke, Vandy)
