Sumlin will be at TAMU for at least 3 more seasons. After that he very well might move on to the NFL. That's what people don't get. It's not happening soon.

I don't think people understand that he isn't making that much less than NFL HCs. With the NFL, he could be fired in one or two years if you stink upon arrival. He is setup to make TAMU a bully in recruiting and a monster on the field. A good DC and DC recruits, and you can think NCs for TAMU. If Miles retired in the next 5-6 years, I'd love to get Sumlin here.

That defense hasn't shown any signs of much progression. They have a lot of young talent but you can't expect young talent to develop fast. Their offense will still put up numbers but not like the past 2 years. I think that's an unrealistic expectation considering the megaton loss in JF/Evans. TAMU fans will come back to reality when they realize just how special JF was and how big of a loss they'll recognize next year without him. You can't replace a guy like that.

I think they're going to have another 4+ loss season. They're fortunate they didn't have 5 losses the way that bowl game was going until JF went ham.

Some schools are just built for offense with the right HC. Before Manziel, they had Tannehill, before Tannehill, they had Jerrod Johnson. Sumlin and Keenum broke a shite ton of passing records at Houston.

he lost a lot of games at Houston though. He's a good coach and A&M should be happy to have him but i just don't see him as a first level elite head coach.

It amazes me the hype around Sumlin. He's only beaten 1 ranked SEC team in two season's. Started the season ranked 5th and wasn't able to beat a ranked team this season until Duke in their bowl game. Finished 4-4 in conference play.

jff is only part of the equation. a&m had a def end and an off tackle in the first round. the off tackle was "replaced this year. now they have to replace that tackle. losing mike evans this year as well.

sumlin walked into some talent. we will see if can develop replacements. i do not think he will, but i have been wrong on more important things.

you would think that LSU fans would see this.

35-17 in his four years there but he was more of an offensive minded coach. He can get the talent at TAMU and a god DC to be great.

He may be 20-6 in his first 2 years, but Charlie Weis started 20-6 in his first 2 years as well and made 2 BCS bowls. I'm not saying Sumlin will turn out like Weis, but like Weis, the jury is very much out on his ability to put together a good defense. Weis never could figure it out even with quality, proven DCs. Until he proves that he can do that, I will question his ability to field a championship level team. And unlike a lot of young coaches who emerge on the scene (Brian Kelly, Gus, Shaw, and even Strong), Sumlin has not made it to a BCS Bowl. For a guy that gets so much pub, that's pretty surprising and I think skepticism is warranted.

There's no recruiting in the NFL and that's what Sumlin loves about college

Didn't Pete Carroll make the quote that college was a sweeter gig than the pros because in the pros you get one first round pick per year whereas at USC he could get up to 25 per year? Where'd Carroll wind up going? Obviously that's a paraphrase, and obviously Carroll's situation does not equal Sumlin's, but if you're a fantastic X's and O's coach like Sumlin is supposed to be, why wouldn't the NFL be a sweeter job? More money. More talent. Sure, greater competition, but if you're as good as you're supposed to be you should be able to win.

Just curious.

hopefully for the sake of the aggies the situations are not comparable. it seemed like Carroll caught wind of the impending NCAA sanctions and got out of dodge just in time

The bong and lighter is a great addition to an already amazing Honey Badger image.

Can't believe I just noticed it.

Not really. We just guaranteed him $30million dollars. No NFL team will guarantee $30M
