re: Do you believe that Saban is leaving the University of Alabama?

He's been at Bama longer than anywhere else, so this statement is false. Something is different, clearly.
Michigan State 5 years
LSU 5 years
Alabama 7 years
CLEARLY the man has changed. He also probably doesn't eat Little Debbie snacks or say "relative to" every other sentence while he talks with his hands or talk about "the process".
Yep, he's nothing like he was here.

Just to touch on this a bit. He wouldn't be starting over at all. Texas offers everything Bama does plus is sitting in a recruiting diamond mine.
I agree that Texas offers all those things but I've never understood why people bring up the recruiting aspect. Are people saying he doesn't have to travel as far to recruit at the same level or that his recruiting is going to take a big jump at Texas as opposed to Alabama? It's hard to have any higher ranked classes than he's had at Alabama.
As for him staying or leaving, I agree with those that say 50/50 chance either way. First of all, if the rumors of Saban being tied up in debt from bad investments are true and Texas is willing to pay all that off (which is ridiculous if true) then that pushes the advantage to Texas and I can understand him leaving. It's hard to expect any school to buy off tens of millions of bad debt so I don't see how anyone can compete with Texas if they're willing to do that. Second of all, I could see Saban becoming bored with his present situation. Heck, myself and a few other Bama fans I know were in a weird way getting a bit bored with the success. We blow all but 3 or 4 opponents out each year and it's a letdown if we aren't playing for it all. Ironically, Auburn's emergence may actually help Alabama a bit in this regard. Now he may feel like he has a legitimate challenge with a fast rising Auburn program.
All in all, I could definitely see him leaving for Texas this year. He's done about everything a coach can do at one school. He might want one challenge and at his age this may be the only window for a change. On the other hand, at his age he may have learned his mistake of leaving a sure thing at LSU and screwing up a sure thing for a second time by leaving Alabama. Anything is possible at this point and it is a coin flip imho.

IMO, he's staying at Alabama (though he is going to get a huge raise)
Why:
He's 62 years old. Does he really want to start over again? (even though getting TX back to national prominence would probably only take 2 years max)
He would be moving to a less competitive conf. At this point, I think the thrill of the competition that the SEC provides is the only thing that still motivates him. People talk about whether or not he is complacent at Bama. Dominating the Big 12 with very few challengers could get really boring.
Bama is going to pay him handsomely! It may not be quite as much as Texas would, but I don't think his lifestyle would drastically change if he missed out on 1-2 mill per year.
Regardless of where he goes the expectations will be outrageous. Why not just stay at the place where you have things rolling already?
To me, if he's going anywhere besides Alabama, it's back to the NFL. It's the one place where he hasn't succeeded. You can't tell me that for a person who is as competitive as he is, it doesn't bother him a little bit to see Carroll and Harbaugh coach Super Bowl contenders while his NFL days are remembered for passing on Drew Brees and making an unprofessional exit from Miami.

Yes, I do think we're special. Alabama is one of the elite jobs in football. Thats not a crazy opinion; anyone who's not biased would agree. LSU is in that category also.
of course Alabama is an elite job that's not really what I meant. If he stays then it will be because he believes that the best thing for him and his legacy is to stay where he is and try to win more NCs there rather than try to be the first to do it at 3 schools. It could be any other "elite" program and the calculation would not change.

i'm sure it does but in the NFL it's almost entirely about the QB and a job with an elite QB already there doesn't open up very often. He's not going to go coach Matt Schaub i guarantee you that.

Winning another NC at a 3rd school?
I always see this mentioned and never see "winning more NC's than Bear Bryant" as a conceivable challenge. Is it not just as likely, since we're all guessing anyway, that he sees this as a higher goal than winning a NC at 3 schools? The bear won 6, Saban trails by 2 and could supplant one of the greatest coaches of all time as the best to ever coach at Alabama. Just a thought

Well, if you don't know that Texas produces a lot more big time D-1 football prospects than Alabama then I don't know what to tell you.

I am of the opinion that he stays at the University of Alabama
Why? Because he is older now.
Saban worked his wandering ways out of his system. He decided he wanted a shot at the NFL. He went there, did that. He got a chance to return to college at a great program and took it. He has rebuilt a dynasty. I honestly believe that if Saban was at Tuscaloosa from 2000-2004 he would still have left for Miami. He wanted that challenge at that time.
I don't think he wants a different challenge now. He is 60 (I think). He has grown kids that are leaving the house. He is going to be a grandfather. I think he stays at Alabama until he flames out. When that could be, I don't know. But I would wager a guess that it could be as early as in two years and as late as in eight years.

I think he's the best now, but if you look around, you see nothing but Bear reverence around Tuscaloosa; and he's been dead for over 30 years.
I don't think he will ever surpass the Bear in most of your fan's eyes.

But yeah living here in Tuscaloosa it's been cool to see them become part of the community

Jimmy Sexton, Nick Saban‘s agent, told Texas officials in January Saban’s success with Alabama had put him under “special pressure,” according to the Associated Press. As previously reported, Saban’s agent had these discussions back in January with Texas regents. Those talks lasted about 45 minutes according to the September report.
quote:
“Sexton confirmed that UT is the only job Nick would possibly consider leaving Alabama for, and that his success there created special pressure for him,” Texas regent Tom Hicks wrote in documents obtained by the AP.

The success has been so great that Terry seems to think fans don't completely appreciate what's going on.
I can post 100000000000000 things that fit whatever angle I decide to take just like you! Nicky is about getting paid!!!! Hes playing Bama and Texas against each other, and in the end its about HIM and ONLY HIM!!!!!!! No one knows where he is going, hell, he may not even know, he just wants everyone to bend over and drop their draws for him!!!! If hes staying, and he didn't kill the rumors on Gameday, hes more of an arse than I thought, and I AM QUITE SURE HE'S AN arse!

I will never again say that Saban will do anything predictable. He could leave for a job at Ole Miss and I wouldn't be surprised.

He'll be at Alabama University until he retires in a two to four years.

You severely overstate that.
Wherever there is a Bear Bryant picture in Tuscaloosa, you can bet there is a Nick Saban picture somewhere not too far away.

Nick Saban did not play for or attend the University of Alabama.
Paul Bryant did.

It's normal to honor the dead...Saban has a damn 10 foot statue in front of the stadium man, when was the last tmie you spent a week in tuscaloosa? Bryant will always live in Alabama lore, nothing will ever change that, but if he wants an immortal legacy then he's in the right place
