so all he's ever done is coach WRs. Granted, he's been damn good at that.

Is Tulane going to throw 11 WRs on the field at once?

I certainly see the potential of Curtis Johnson at Tulane, but it's by no means an A+ hire IMO. There are plenty of question marks. The biggest question is what kind of offense would he plan on running? He's never even been an OC before.

Who exactly out there would you call an A+ hire? Johnson is as good a choice as can be expected.

If TU has all this money you guys have been talking about then Curtis Johnson would be able to put together a pretty good staff. Johnson is the kind of guy who could steal a couple of 4 star guys for Tulane.

,Tulane isnt getting an A+ hire. There are a number of guys I'd take over Johnson.I'll limit it to the guys Tulane could possibly have a chance at: Hudspeth, Freeze, Taggart and a few current coordinators.
Johnson brought in great players to Miami, we all agree on that. Can he bring them to Tulane? If he can, will he be abled to coach them up? There are too many unkowns for him to be an A+ hire. Can he be an A+ coach in the end, sure. Based on his resume though he isnt an A+ hire.

I honestly think Tulane fans overrated the job from the beginning because Curtis Johnson would be a very good hire for y'all, assuming he brings in a good staff.

If y'all had enough money to pay $2 million for Rich Rod plus a staff, you should be able to get a fantastic coaching staff around Johnson. The amount of guys you would pull from New Orleans within 2 years would be great.

Provided they either meet Tulane's currently rigid academic standards or the university changes those standards to meet them.

You're probably right.

He could be, but the success rate of recruiting coordinators becoming head coaches with no experience as a Defensive or offensive coordinator doesnt seem to be very good. Maybe I'm wrong.

I know nobody trusts reports from footballscoop, but I'll post it anyway.

Would be nice if they said who they are close with.

That is a valid concern, but you don't get on NFL staffs because of your ability to recruit. He's would be a different guy than Larry Porter. By virtue of being in the NFL it shows he knows how to coach, and we've all seen his recruiting successes.

I fthey do get Curtis Johnson, his most important hire will be DC. He needs to get an experienced DC and leave him alone.

Coach Johnson is my parents next door neighbor. Tulane would be extremely lucky to get a guy of his caliber and character. He would be a recruiting machine with his personality.

If they hire Curtis Johnson, that could turn out to be a good hire. However, in the history of college football, I can't think of a situation where an ace recruiter that was not a coordinator ever had success as a head coach. In fact, most are complete disasters.

I will even say that the number of hires that go from position coach to head coach and have success is almost non-existant.

If Tulane goes this route it won't work.

And it's not about Curtis Johnson. IMO he's not the name they need. A retread would be better. Fine coach but he is not going to get anyone around the program fired up. at all. That will be a fail, too bad
