I think it was because his body was covering the ball, so you couldn't really tell if it had been jarred loose before he hit the ground... I still think it was pretty obviously not a fumble....

He was right about the call... I would never call a timeout just to get extra time to chew out the refs, though. Some players respond well to a coach that will stick up for them like that....
