Here's a shocking thought: Maybe JJ just isn't as good as some people think he is.

Granted, it was Crowton's fault too. But maybe JJ just couldn't learn.

Nobody thinks hes a world beater, but its obvious he has regressed.

Hes been here long enough to learn the playbook, unless hes mentally challenged.

Gary Crowton always called a decent game, in my opinion---but he was limited by the quarterback's inability to execute the offense.
The real problems that need to be addressed are the quarterback and the offensive line. The team needs a good developer of quarterbacks, and better technique is needed in the offensive line (on a consistent basis).
Crowton could make offensive adjustments, but they didn't show because of the lack of execution.
We might also want to look at the wide receivers coach---I noticed a difficulty of our receivers getting open at times.

OK Gary, good luck with the turtles....shouldn't you be packing?

Y'all have it wrong! The players, upon arrival on campus for their first year, are supposed to know everything about the playbook and know everything there is supposed to be known about fundamentals, etc. Gary Crowton shouldn't have to have stopped his very busy time to actually coach Jefferson or make sure that they were taught anything. He shouldn't have made sure that the scheme worked with all problems considered. Gary Crowton should have been able to just stand on the sidelines and call the plays. That's it. No other responsibility.

I'm thinking Crowton wasn't the entire problem. I've been a harsh critic of Miles but I'm not putting the entire blame on his shoulders.

Miles is at fault for bringing in someone who clashed with his philosophy. I think they share fault because neither half of the shitty offense worked.

JJ isn't the only QB at LSU.

Don't be scared to look past 2007. Crowton was awful with Dennis Dixon and John Beck playing QB (both are in the NFL).

He's just a garbage offensive coordinator.

The major problem. The addition of Ben Wilkerson helped the O-Line improve and I think we will see more improvement when "Stud" moves on to Memphis with Porter. That will be the next coaching change.

First of all, the notion that there was just one problem seems fallacious anyway.

I agree that GC was a good playcaller and ran a good offense when he had the right kind of talent. His main limitations seem to be that he is not flexible enough to adapt to lesser talent levels and that he is not able to coach up that talent to make it better. No question that he was handcuffed the last few years by poor QB play and I'm a little curious whether Mettenberger would enable a return to 2007 form for Gary. However, as bad as our QBs have been, I still don't think he was getting all the potential out of them that he could. And in 3 years neither of them really seemed to improve much except that JJ did start playing somewhat better at the end of this year, and especially in the bowl game. I just think that he has his style which requires a certain kind of player. We didn't have that type of player and so he was at a loss how to get the best out of what we did have.
