Well, if you are that young, then at least it's explainable. Vick singlehandedly made them relevant, sort of. They had absolutely zero business in the BCS game that year, and yet every local sports reporter here, and any Tech fan thinks they actually have a chance at winning a Natty every year. It's absurd. They are a mediocre football team that has tended to punch over their weight, mainly because of Foster really, and Beamer before he forgot how to coach special teams (really he just played starters on ST, and now everyone else does this too).
Half my family, a couple ex's, and many friends of mine went there. My much younger sister in law is currently there. I'm not saying this as some random person from somewhere else.
ODU is currently way higher on my shite list though, their fans are next level delusional. I called the UNC blowout last year when the game was scheduled and got a rash of shite. Until the game happened.

Gotta be uncertainty in Blacksburg if this shakes out. He's been a loyal soldier there & always mentioned as a successor, but Hokies need a fresh regime if Frank is out the door.

Early 20's , I was 7-8 at the time. Yeah VT has thrived as an underdog with less talent. It's time for Beamer to "retire" though. Foster wont be the next head coach there, and he has known that for a couple years now. Either this year or next year a team is going to get a great DC.

Beamer is gone after next season, no matter what. Word is that Witt (AD there) came very close to firing him this offseason, but agreed to give Beamer one last season to try to go out on top

That's not crazy in the least.
Foster is 10x the D coordinator Muschamp is.
Muschamp is 10x the recruiter though. A&M doesn't really need a recruiter, but USCe could use it.
ETA:
To expound, Bud does more with less. Muschamp has always had wayyy more talent than Bud. Give Bud Foster 5* talent all over his defense and you’d see something pretty special I think. Boom has not proven to be as consistent as Bud either.
