He isn't going. Maybe next year after Beamer leaves. But I don't see him leaving until Beamer is gone, too much loyalty there

It has been rumored for weeks in Blacksburg that Bud had a deal in place for an extension, so I highly doubt this.

Also, VA has a rule that does not allow HCIW or similar things such as that.

So if there is an announcement for Bud, it will not involve HCIW.

All that being said, I do not believe Bud will ever be the HC at VT, so I do hope he jumps and gets a chance at national title somewhere. He really is a great man.

No one uses the HCIW moniker anymore because of the recruiting restrictions around it.

I said I'd laugh at Va Tech. Not A&M.

My Tech people say this rumor was started by an FSU fan. No idea if that's true or wishful thinking.

hy?

His numbers at VT are pretty damn strong. Top 20 in scoring D in 9 out of the last 11 years, 7 of those 9 being top 10.

And this is with VT's normally awful offensive production.

So you're saying he's a poor man's John Chavis?

I don't know anyone who would call him that. He has done everything at VT with a fraction of the talent available at LSU

Seeing as how we will pay him more than Chavis makes I think I would say he is a rich man's John Chavis.

LSU did not steal Chavis from UT I don't believe. He was let go when Fulmer was fired.

Yeah I think he's leveraging us to firm up his situation and get some sort of guarantee about his shot at the HC position

He makes like $5-600K now....Can VT really double that? What about paying him say $1.5M like we could?

I don't see it. Sumlin knows full well that this DC hire makes or breaks him. We didn't spend $500M on a stadium to pinch pennies with our next DC hire.

Also, as with the Chavis comparison in Tenn, Beamer could very well be out and they would very well want to start all over next year. Why would Foster hitch his wagon to that?

This is the thing. The Aggies have $500 million on the table right now. We wouldn't do this, but it would be financially correct to offer Nick Saban $15 million per year to avoid falling apart as a program with the huge investment into the stadium.

I think it's pretty clear that we blew our load too early on Sumlin. He could end up being a great coach, but he had it easy with Johnny. Any number we throw at a DC will be worth it if it keeps us from getting no return on a $500 million investment.

too early on summy? maybe, jury's still way out on him i'm thinking.

Johnny made him look like a god, maybe Kyler will do the same.

one of Kenny/Kyle won't be there past spring, so i'm sure we'll find out sooner than later.

It was straight up pay him or lose him to USC. Would you pick option B if you could go back in time?

No way, I am so glad we overpaid. Even with a crappy season it kept recruiting momentum and kept us from looking like a stepping stone program.

Even if Sumlin fails at least the next guy steps into a full cabinet. Much much better than going into the same hiring pool as Texas.
