Me too, he has been there a long time. But when you think about it him reaching out to us makes a little sense, we were paying some chump over a million a year. You know that had to stick out to a Bud Foster making like half that.

That is why I am such a big fan of overpaying coaches. Better coaches notice.

If this hire is real, I am absolutely pumped. He wasn't even on my radar because he's been there so long. Reminds me of LSU stealing Chavis from Tennessee.

Would be a good hire. But I do find it strange that he is now going to leave Vtech.

Similar situation. New AD at VT, Beamer is older than dirt, if Beamer has another bad year next year he is likely gone. With a new AD, there is no goodwill there for him to be "presumed" the heir-apparent (if he had any aspiration to ever become a HC).

Foster is a solid DC and could do wonders at aTm

maybe Mike Riley inspired him...perhaps this is the year some long term coaches jump to new jobs for a change of pace...

I started to like the comparison more and more after I posted it. It's pretty much the exact same situation. Hopefully, the success is the same.

The guy that posted that has less than 10 posts. Please post a credible source.

I actually think the guy who posted it would be just the guy to know. Probably a guy who doesn't often post on message boards but has a big scoop he wants to share. It is being kept really quiet, but most people believe that Sumlin has his guy (although nobody has the name). It doesn't seem to be any of the names being thrown around though.

I want to get some jars ready but I don't want to do the cleanup work ahead of time before the ink is on a contract...

Yep, probably forcing the new AD to make him the coach in waiting. If that doesn't happen, he's gone.

True. I just checked the VT site, says the poster has only 7 posts and created the account today. Let's not get ahead of ourselves.

As a fan of a rival SEC West school, I wouldn't.

His defenses at Va. Tech have been great for over a decade.

ETA - I can't see him leaving Va. Tech for another coordinator gig, though. Isn't he the de facto successor to Beamer? His name was tossed around on a yearly basis a few years ago, but talk about him has been nonexistent the last few years.
