Red Rising is a fun read.

Three Body Problem is a very difficult read, but very much worth it. It's difficult in the sense that it's a Chinese author, and while the translation is fantastic the thought process can seem a bit "foreign" at times. It's also difficult because there are a lot of concepts that are new to Sci Fi. ie, "Dark Forest Theory", Theoretical Materials science, Radio Astronomy, etc.. TBP is very conceptual.. and is.. absolutely fantastic. I wasn't old enough to experience Arthur C. Clarke's innovative ideas at the time they were written, but reading this gives me an idea of what it was like.

In 20 years, Three Body Problem will be the book everyone remembers, not Red Rising.

You had me shaking my head 'yes, yes, yes' and completely agreeing with you (even clapping in my head) ... until that last sentence.

Red Rising will hold its own 20 years from now in the same realm as Old Man's War ... among the same fans, it will be fondly thought-of, still being read by a new generation and remembered by others.

Three Body, however, provokes a different sort of thought process even now and it will continue to evoke a lot of what-ifs and second guessing of our existence and place in this universe in the future. Thus it holds more of a philosophical grasp upon some of us than does Red Rising.

Three Body has more of an Arthur C Clarke feel to it ... from a ground breakingly original, scientific, futuristic perspective. It asks a lot of previously unconsidered (sic) questions.

Three Body is terrifying in many ways.

No doubt in my mind that Red Rising makes its way to the screen at some point. The author, Pierce Brown, has confirmed it's been close to getting green lit a few times already. If done right, which isn't guaranteed, that will only add to it's staying power.

Love both. They are worlds apart, no pun intended.

Red Rising is a little over the top at times. I feel like he's going for Game of Thrones levels of twists/shock value.

I am halfway through the second TBP book and its just crazy good. I dont even know how to describe the series in general.

FWIW I liked golden son and morning star (books 2 and 3 of red rising) more than red rising itself.

Brown clearly improved as a writer book to book. Red Rising was the most fun but the Golden Son and Morning Star are better books.
