8) PoA (I really hate his filming technique and stupid smashing shite with set pieces every five seconds, this film just pisses me off)

Well that's just wrong. The movie was directed by masterful director Alfonso Cuaron, by far the best to be a part of this universe. Go watch Children of Men. No one can shoot a movie like Cuaron can.

I'm wrong about my least favorite movie in the HP series? That's just dumb.

He's done other things I have liked, but PoA isn't one of them. It irritates me far above any of the others.

I didn't like Harry and Ginny's relationship in either the books or movies. Just so forced.

Even looking back at how starstruck Ginny is upon meeting Harry for the first time, it felt like through the first four books, her crush was just innocent and something for Ron and Harry to bond over/poke fun at her/Ron for. It really felt like Hermione was written for Harry.

Then, starting around book 5, it seemed as if the author decided to shuffle the love interests instead of writing one in for Ron. It always seemed out of place to me for some reason.

Again, it's easy to read Ginny as "madly in love since first site" of Harry, but it just never made that connection with me early on, giving the later relationship a fairly "out of place" feeling.

She has even said she screwed that one up though.

What she screwed up was forcing an intimate, lasting relationship at all. Dating, fine. That's "normal" but finding the person you marry at 11 (and especially having a close friendship from the start) just doesn't fit well... And she did it with all of the main characters.

I've read all of them, some of them twice, and enjoyed them as I read them. They have significant flaws though.

The main sport in the series was very clearly designed by someone with no idea how sports work.

The economy in the series was very clearly designed by someone with no idea about economics.

Quidditch is supposed to be silly and outlandish. The rules make little sense; the game can go on indefinitely if the snitch doesn't decide to show up. The books make references to this. It's not supposed to be soccer or football.

What I've found interesting is how most of the wizarding world works for the Ministry. So their government is the basis for almost the entire economy, which is a very European thing to do.

Yeah, but it's utterly ridiculous that there's a way to score not only 15 scores but also end the game. How would you feel if your football team was up 42-0 but then some guy on the other teammade a kick that was not only worth 45 points but also ended the game?

She clearly has no ideas how sports work because that makes literally everyone else on the team worthless. It was designed to make Harry more important not with actual rules in mind. Any editor who was into sports would immediately tell her to go back to the drawing board with Quidditch.

What is the problem with quiddich? Seems hard to "invent" a new sport as it is, add magic and I suppose it's a bit easier.
But, the flaw??

It is supposed to be utterly ridiculous. And Krum caught the snitch at the World Cup, and his team still lost, so there's that.

I'm not disagreeing that she has no idea how sports work; she's a woman and fairly liberal, so its not surprising.

I'd say it's easily correctable: lose the Seeker and make it timed. That's all she needs to do.

Then, she just created flying handball, essentially. Yeah, the bludgers or whatever they were called is another curveball, but it's not really a fun, new game. I'm not saying the snitch is the answer either. I hated that part of the game, but there needs to be something magical involved other than flying.

Why would you do this, in a magic book? The seeker and snitch are the coolest parts.
Timed I could agree with.
End at the catch of the snitch or time.

I disagree so much.
Her version makes other players worthless but if you refer to my previous post and use the time clock and snitch to end the game, it would be a very interesting sport honesty

The only series I can say I’ve read every book at least 4-5x each, though it’s been a long time. I love everything about this universe really. Planning on listening to the audio version for the first time next year.

HP will always be my sentimental fave series just because I grew up with them and loved the magic, some pun intended. Fond memories of going out to grab the new ones at midnight and staying up reading until I was finished.

In adult years, I really appreciate how the story gets darker and more somber the further you guy as the characters age. The movies did a good job capturing that too imo.

I’m so jealous - that’s one series I wish I could read for the first time again

I'm actually going through them again with my niece right now as she's reading them for the first time. Cool family bonding moments as she's really starting to become a reader and able to think for herself beyond what's been programmed in her head from school.

I loved them growing up. Cause I was around the same age as them. I stopped reading after Order of the Phoenix though because I thought I was too cool to read them.

End of marrying a massive Harry Potter fan that convinced me to re-read and finish the book series a few years back. It was an awesome experience.

Half-Blood Prince is easily my favorite book.

Banning usage of the word snogging would shorten it by 50 pages by itself.

ETA: I didn’t realize this was nearly a six year old thread randomly bumped.

Never read them.

Like a lot of us who grew up in church youth groups in the 90’s when they were first released, they were “frowned upon.”

Then I got old and never picked them up.
