re: Anti-trust laws have been used for AT&T, MS, Std Oil. Why not Google, Facebook, etc.?
Posted by slam627 on 10/30/17 at 11:49 pm
That is definitely something that is discussed in not only the antitrust arena, but also the consumer protection world, which overlaps. You'll get results for this--even if you use google as your search engine.
But, it is somewhat of an academic exercise. There are obvious violators and easier...

[quote]Anti-trust is a really fascinating subject, but a short answer to your question: a lot of times it won't come into play when the player at hand gained market share through what is essentially organic growth. In other words, the Googles and Facebooks of the world were revolutionary enough that...

Having a monopoly is not illegal. Obtaining or maintaining a monopoly through anticompetitive conduct that harms the market is illegal.
Companies do not have to step aside and provide an on-ramp for their competitors to gain more market share. They only have to refrain from engaging in antico...
re: Tickets For LSU vs. BYU In The Superdome Go On Sale Wednesday

Yeah I went a few sections to the side and got basically the same thing for 150. They capitalize on people being frantic.
I just don't know why there was nothing available in the 100's or 200's already and why 300's are the highest bracketed price? Fishy....

re: Your one request for Baton Rouge golf

[quote]I won't disagree completely that golf is an expensive sport, however the 3 sports you list as you describe them are also very expensive. You don't play "competitive" soccer and baseball by staying in town and paying a league fee to a local recreation department. You travel, and you spend like...
re: Your one request for Baton Rouge golf

I'm not saying golf is expensive in Baton Rouge specifically, but golf is an expensive sport.
When people have multiple kids in various sports and are paying tuition, competitive soccer, football, baseball, etc. then golf is going to fall by the wayside unless there is a way to make it actually q...

I have never been to this particular board before, but noticed it today and was interested because my son has been getting into golf recently. He is 13 and a good athlete who plays a lot of sports throughout the year.
Those sports, games and practices, prevent not only him from playing much golf...
NOLA MLS Team??
Posted by slam627 on 7/24/17 at 12:18 am
My kid is watching Atlanta United game right now and said that the announcers just said that the Atlanta team is moving to NOLA. I can't find anything online about it. Is he smoking crack or is this brand new news? He's all pumped if true.
Edit---mystery solved. The new Atlanta stadium is the ...

Family movie night suggestions
Posted by slam627 on 5/13/17 at 3:01 pm
My kids are now old enough to watch PG-13 movies with me and I've been enjoying watching things that aren't animated and actually entertaining.
I will post some that they've enjoyed and am hoping for more suggestions....
re: General PSA from patients to healthcare providers: What we want you to know

I don't have a dog in this fight and don't give a shite overall, but as that disinterested party I do have to chime in and say that I am required to fill out 2-3 pages minimum of paperwork every damn time I see any of the docs I go to, or my children.
Maybe it is because we rarely go...literally o...
re: When's the latest time of year I can make a ski trip to Colorado?

Went to Steamboat 5 years ago for Easter break in early April. Snow was still there but was poor. They were having to truck in snow to the base area for ski school. bottom half of the mountain was closed, but upper mountain was open. discounted lift tickets cause half of the mountain was closed. ...

SGS has some really athletic kids and it shows on the basketball court.
Was discussing the "why" of this the other day with another parent. Noted that the geography of the SGS parish is conducive to year-round swimming (Crawfish) and year-round soccer (Burbank/BRSC), which makes it easy for th...
re: Obvious grammatical errors... Do they bother you?

Bother is not the right word for me.
Notice? Yes.
Judge? Absolutely.
Care? Unfortunately no...I've come to expect it most of the time.
But I then categorize people who make those mistakes and I never forget. They drop a notch in how I assess their intelligence unless they prove themselves...

re: One of the most common misconceptions- kids don't talk face to face anymore

I didn't feel strongly one way or another on this until fairly recently when I realized that all of my student interns had the following characteristics:
(a) lurking outside of my door in the hallway until I acknowledged them and initiated conversation; and
(b) not knowing how to end a conversa...

Depends on the grant type--there are many. Only way to be sure is to ask FEMA. One thing I can attest to is that they WILL come back and look for their money if it was supposed to be spent a certain way but was not....
