re: Cisco Certification Question - LSUDropout
Route I took was CCNA -> CCNA Wireless -> CCNP -> CCNP Wireless. This worked well for me because I do a fair amount of wireless work and it provided a lot of instant, real world, usability. That said, I believe the CCNA Security is a great certificate. You'll need a LOT less time invested to ...

I wasn't a huge Denny Shaffer fan, but he was 1000x better than Gerry V. I've stopped listening completely. I don't really care for his format or his opinions....

re: VLAN noob need assistance - please explain tagged, untagged, trunks, etc - LSUDropout
Yeah, I've actually never logged into a HP switch before (I'm almost ALL Cisco), but I've had to learn the difference in lingo over the years from trying to help friends/customers with configuration on their HP gear. To the OP, it sounds like what you're trying to do can certainly be done, but wi...

re: VLAN noob need assistance - please explain tagged, untagged, trunks, etc - LSUDropout
One problem here is that Cisco and HP use these terms VERY differently. For HP, a "Tagged" port is generally the same as a "Trunk" port on a Cisco device. Also, a "Trunk" port on an HP is simillar to a "Port-Channel" on a Cisco device. So you need to be careful when using these terms as it can ...

re: Converting MKV video to MP4 - LSUDropout
Handbrake can re encode MKV to MP4, but it takes awhile. I use Subler which remuxes the MKV to MP4. It only takes a few minutes to do a ~4 GB file where Handbrake takes about an hour, depending on your processor speed.
I'm guessing the file size remains unchanged, yes? I use Handb...

re: Where should i have my media server running and which one (plex,XBMC) - LSUDropout
As far as which to run; a lot of people run Plex and from what I hear, it just works. I rarely hear of people having issues with it. I've been running Media Browser which I've liked a lot. A buddy of mine runs Media Browser AND Plex on the same box, so truth be told, you're not even really li...

re: Where should i have my media server running and which one (plex,XBMC) - LSUDropout
Will you be able to put the laptop on a wired connection, or will it be wireless? I'm not sure you'll want to run your media server over a wireless connection. It may work ok over wireless, but in most cases you'd want your server on the wire....

re: Where should i have my media server running and which one (plex,XBMC) - LSUDropout
I would imagine a lot of those devices would be client only devices and would not even be capable of running the server software. You mention running it on the PS3, but I'm not aware of the PS3 having the ability to act as a media server, only a client (perhaps I'm wrong, idk). Though it may hav...

re: Wired peer-to-peer network question - LSUDropout
When he says peer-to-peer I think he just means that there is no dedicated server. It sounds like he is still on a typical switched network. ETA: A networked XP machine shouldn't have issues communicating with networked Win7 machines, but can you give some specifics about what is done over the n...

re: installing windows 8.1 from a usb stick..anyone done this? - LSUDropout
I just did this recently with Windows 7, I would imagine the process is the same for 8.1 as all you're really doing is creating a bootable USB from an ISO file. I first tried the windows utility, but I was having issues. I downloaded a tool called Rufus and it worked perfect. [link=(https://r...

re: Comcast Says It'll Offer Gigabit Internet This Year - LSUDropout
Yeah, your connection to any particular site/service is only going to be as good as the weakest (slowest) link. Connections to different sites/services traverse different paths, and thus different providers. It is also completely possible, if not likly, that the weakest link may not even be n...
