And the only reason it is found is because the 8th grader told another kid he had it, and that kid was smart enough to tell a teacher.

So many things have to happen to get to that point.

What caused the kid to feel the need to bring a gun to school?

Why did the kid tell the other kid? Was he bragging? Was he warning? Was it a cry for help?

DId the kid think there would be no consequences?

How did he get the gun? Did a parent leave it out? Was it bought on the street? Did the kid know the gun safe code? Do the parents even know it was missing today?

Do middle schools need to now have clear bags and metal detectors? Do we need to search kids each day?

How much do we blame the school? The kid? The parents?

How did we get to this point?

Happened in 7th grade. Kid just brought it to show off. Talked about it to some other kids. Also got caught with porn

Um, high school in the 90's, I had a shotgun in the back window of my truck most days.

Our rural high school any kid could have walked out into a dozen or more pick up trucks and grabbed a rifle, no one ever did.

Generation of kids is just freaking nuts, very weak minded unable to deal with adversity or tough times without resorting to shooting/killing someone. Being all "disrespected" and what not.

Human nature. The same reason he showed it to another kid, because it was "cool"

We used to do the same thing wit pornos.

Some kids are stupid and will do anything for attention.

Street cred. Send the little thug wannabe to juvenile detention and keep him there until he is 18. If his parents had anything to do with it, impose an unbelievably heavy fine. We got to this point because we have failed to instill in kids respect for the law and the sanctity of human life.

Its likely factors of either safety concerns or showing off.

And everyone knew and saw it.

Not a smaller gun packed in a schoolbag.

Social media. A self entitled society that doesn’t care for accountability and responsibility. List goes on and on.

100% on the parents. They most likely don’t have any regard for gun safety. And IMO, If you don’t care about gun safety you have no business owning a gun.

You think a shotgun on a rack in a truck in the school parking lot is the same as bringing a handgun in side the school in your backpack?

Why don’t you tell us? You’re the one that thinks teachers know the kids better than the parents.

Same, a relatively normal kid brought it to school just a show off, this was around 1990. Some other kid snitched on him. A day later I was named as a witness and got called the prinicple's office where I was interrogated, asked me to draw a picture of the gun.

Enough witnesses drew pictures of different guns that he got off.

I still remember this kid's name. Tripp Allen. He was legendary after that.

That was such a dumb method of gun storage. Did you leave them up like that at night and around town? Or did you just throw them up there before school to peacock?

We used to leave them in our trucks as well, until someone complained. Then we had to bring them to the office in a case and could pick them up after school. Different times for sure.
