Family and friends rented a house in June in Virginia Beach.

Anyone familiar with the area have any recommendations or cool shite to do besides getting hammered at the house?

I've never been there and was out voted for another Hilton Head trip. I'm good with just getting drunk at the house but asking just to see.

Thanks baws

Jesus Christ, why? If your buddies aren't at NAS Norfolk, living in that place when I was a kid is still the reason I don't eat seafood. There was a fish market down the road off the beach (if you see a giant pink house attached to an apartment block that hasn't somehow been torn down yet, that's where I lived). All I smelled was rotting fish all day. The beach was *never* warm in the year I lived there.

Being near a Navy base, there are bound to be plenty of trashy strip clubs, payday loan joints, and low, low, priced autos around!

Because of the color of the house, pilots would use our house (more appropriately described as a pile of pink-ish colored sticks about to make the news in a collapse) to turn final into the NAS.

On the plus side, you will probably get great in home service from strippers since I'm assuming you make more than $2150 a month like most of the E-2s that are around. However, there are a ton of them, and they have no responsibilities other than the $900 a month note on their car

Check out the Cavalier hotel. Very haunted and has a super cool bar. The hotel across the street (Hyatt or Hilton idk?) had a restaurant overlooking the water and really good crabcakes (I was generally surprised since I am normally not a fan of hotel restaurants and am picky about crab cakes).

Also the area gets trashier panama beach style as you head south from this point.

I used to live in Williamsburg, it’s an hour away. Y’all could go to Busch gardens one day, or visit colonial Williamsburg/Jamestown.

The naval boat tour in Norfolk is awesome, they take you through the base and tell you about each ship in port, hard to catch the carriers in port though.

I just got back from there. Stay at the house. Looks like it would have been a great place to go 30 years ago.

Stayed there a few times for work in recent years. Rudee's Restaurant on the water is pretty good.

Beaches were clean, but it was weird seeing brown sand when I'm used to Gulf Coast beaches.

What part of VB is the house??

Cavalier/Marriot are really nice. The downstairs bar (Hunt Room) at the Cavalier is one of the better one’s in VB. Restaurant at the hotel is really good too. The place at the top of the Marriott (Orion’s Roof) is great. Nice view, should be cool in June.

Oscar’s down south on the oceanfront is really nice. CP Shuckers closeby is my favorite bar on the oceanfront. Bit of a dive bar but a good time, think it’s the only bar that stays open past midnight or so.

Shore Drive on the north side of VB is some really nice bay beaches that are more chill than the oceanfront. There’s another CP Shuckers there, food is actually really great.

You must go to TASTE, & go often. Best sandwiches I’ve had in the US. My in laws are in VB so I end up going to TASTE 2-3 times every visit. There’s 4-5 in VB so there’s bound to be one close.

Other than that there’s some cool things within driving distance a number of directions.

It's on Sandbridge if that's familiar to you. 9 bedrooms sleeps 20 and the pics look pretty nice with a big pool.

Thanks for the recs I do appreciate it! I'll be drunk during the day and getting barbequed on the beach at night, so I'm good. I was just curious for the friends and kids.

my wife is from that area and went to school at ODU. Second the recommendation of taste for sandwiches they are great. There’s plenty to keep y’all occupied if you spend most of the day on the beach otherwise

A day trip to Williamsburg is a lot of fun and there’s a busch gardens there as well. You can also go to Norfolk and check that out. VA beach is a cool place

There’s a cool little town called cape Charles right across that big bridge which is also fun to ride over.

Well, that's completely wrong. That area is huge, and Virginia Beach is not near Norfolk Naval Base. Oceana Air Station is in Virginia Beach, but that just means you will see the jets taking off over the beach. Seals are over there also, but you will never see them.

There is a lot of touristy stuff like souvenir shops there like any other destination, but they do have free beach concerts certain nights near the Hilton where the Neptune statue is.

If you're wanting to do more than just go to the beach you will be near Williamsburg, Yorktown, and Jamestown, and Langley Air Force Base where the astronauts started at. A harbor tour is pretty cool if you've never been up close to Aircraft Carriers. If you've never driven over the Chesapeake Bay Bridge, I highly recommend that. I lived outside Norfolk for 11 years and the best thing about Virginia is the history up there.

As far as food goes, I would recommend the Rockfish, flounder, crab cakes, and scallops in that market. They may have Lynnhaven oysters also.

If you are bringing kids, Nauticus is very interesting plus they have the USS Wisconsin battleship there also. Busch Gardens is just outside Williamsburg.

And just for fun you should drive by PETA headquarters in downtown Norfolk.

Just remember that you will be in an area with a population almost as big as Charlotte, so you are not going to a smaller beach place like the Outer Banks (highly recommend that). But it also means there is more to do than just the beach.
