Good call. Israel is pretty lax on carrying weapons into their country on airplanes.

Israel was by far the best port visit I've made in the Navy.

You should have a good time. I went but I slummed it staying at youth hostels and the like.

Make a detour to Petra in Jordan. You won't regret it.

It's starting to look like we really need a travel board. There is a wealth of info that just gets buried in 24 hours on here.

Spend a couple of nights in Tel Aviv. Underrated nightlife scene. Plus it's a safe, cosmopolitan city on the Mediterranean.

Not going to make a detailed post on recs now since I'm on my phone, but a piece of advice if you're a male traveling solo. Upon departure anticipate a long wait at the airport. They rate you on a numerical scale according to percieved risk and being a single male from America evidently puts you on the upper half of that scale. The wait wasn't that bad once they gave my clothes back.
