Hopefully you're visiting family and didn't plan a week long vacation to Huntsville

I'd take day trips to places like Chattanooga. The Jack Daniels distillery tour in Lynchburg is only about an hour away. It's actually interesting to kids too.

Yeah, your options are limited. I lived there for 2 years, but recently moved to Fort Worth for my job. I'd actually rather be back in Huntsville.

I would recommend going to see Galaxy of Lights at the Botanical Garden, it's a drive-thru light display that is pretty cool. There are also winter parades that take place during the season, but I have no idea what the times are. If you and your kids enjoy outdoor activities then I'd check out some of the walking/jogging/biking paths at Monte Sano State Park, there are some pretty good views from up there too. If you don't mind the hour or so drive the Jack Daniels Distillery tour is pretty cool too.

The BridgeStreet shopping area is pretty nice, some good restaurants with a bunch of different stores. The downtown area isn't bad either, the kids can feed the ducks at big springs park, and there are some good restaurants/bars down there too. If you like seafood or Cajun food in general then I would recommend Cajun Steamers, excellent food. I believe it's near downtown too.

Grew up in Huntsville and I can attest there isn't a lot to do, especially this time of year and if you eliminate the rocket center.

A lot of people love Greenbriars as previously mentioned. If you like chicken wings go to Crickets in Madison. Pints and Pixels is a restaurant with a bunch of arcade games, I haven't been but some old friends said it was fun. Rosie's Cantina is popular for Mexican. Connors steak and seafood at Bridge Street to me has the best steak in Huntsville. Blue plate cafe is a popular local spot and Hildegards German cuisine is a nice spot if you like German food.

Activities wise for kids, all the good ideas have been mentioned already unless you want to take them to chuck e cheese or something similar. Bridge street does have a movie theater that serves alcohol and better quality food if you want to do that. Chattanooga and Nashville are both easy drives as well as Birmingham if you wanted more kids activities.

Drive up to Sewanee, TN for a day. It's really pretty and about an hour away.

Cathedral caverns state park less than 1 hour from Huntsville is great, especially for kids.

Large walk through cave that is very nice and a easy walk with kids. Highly recommend.

Connors for steaks, blue plate for home cooking, Rosie's for Mexican are all solid and places you can bring the kids.

Papa Gyros, Edgar's bakery in Providence, and chuck wagon for BBQ.

If you need anymore restaurant info just hit me up.

As far as things to do with the kids. Most of that has been covered, just depends on time of year.

Leave and go somewhere else, that's my favorite thing to do in Huntsville.

I don't get this, I thought it wasn't very good when I went...

Definitely not a vacation destination. Going with the family for Christmas. Thanks for the suggestions everybody.

We have planned to go see Star Wars at the theatre. I've always wanted to make that trip up to Jack Daniels distillery. We might hit that up.

For some outdoor activity go to : Monte Sano state park just east of town. Nice hilly trails. Also look at Bucks Pocket state park. It's about a 45 minute drive and has some beautiful scenic views. Also check out Walls of Jericho. It's about 1 hour northeast of Huntsville and has a beautiful riverside trail and waterfalls. Enjoy the outdoors in Alabama. It's a very nice state.

My cousin has actually made this walk. He also threatened to kill me when he found me.

It's not my fault his GF left him there.
