They weren't that bad. I booked a trip only two weeks out and Southwest was higher than a few airlines that weekend. Spirit had the flight for $100 rt compared to $300 elsewhere (msy-lax).
I also only looked for direct flights as I hate changing planes.
I did have to double the price of the ticket to add add-ons. Checked bag, exit row seats and the best, shortcut security added a good bit to the cost.
The seats didn't recline and were more upright but it wasn't that bad. You have to buy your drinks but they weren't expensive.
Boarding and check in was all easy. My big complaint with southwest was always the boarding. I enjoy picking out the exit row.
I did notice they sell first class seats for an add on of $40 each way. You don't get free drinks though.
I went in expecting the worst and it wasn't bad. It's not too notch, but if you travel budget friendly I'd look into them.

I've flown with them on two international flights. Really not that that bad.

I really don't understand the drink cost. You give people 75% of a can of soda and a literally 30 cent bag of pretzels, total cost under 50 cents and you don't look or sound cheap as shite.

The rest of it I understand completely and have no issues with. Are they the ones that are like $10 for a carry on and $15 for a checked bags? I forgot about that, that never made sense at all. The price was so close, who would do a carry on outside of for convenience I guess?

The main issue is many places they only fly 2-3 times a week, so if they have a maintenance or other issue you are stuck for days.

Never flown Spirit but will be flying WOW Airlines to Iceland in January. Pretty much the same concept, I believe.

i flew spirit once, las vegas to lax, and it was fine. i was carrying a backpack and they didnt charge me for it. I could tell the aircraft was newer than what i was used to flying with Southwest. Leg room was less than most airlines, but not a big deal for a short flight.

The one odd thing is they almost didnt let me on the plane. I arrived at the airport about 35 minutes before the flight, and they said something to the affect that you need to be there 40 minutes prior or they don't let you board. luckily, they were able to accommodate.

Here's the deal with Spirit: they are fine...until they aren't.

I had flown them 3-4 times and all experiences were relatively adequate...until I had one of the most miserable experiences of my life, which apparently is a common thing on this route and especially if you have a connecting flight.

If you have a direct flight, and its a short trip...it will probably be ok.

If you have a connecting flight and its a longer trip, just pay more to fly with someone else.

You get a free 14x18x8 bag.
$36 for a carry on BUT it comes with priority boarding.
$30 for checked bag.

United started doing this too.

Yeah. Bags have to be checked an hour before and they bump you if you aren't checked in 45 before flight. BUT if you check in online 24 ahead of time this is moot, they don't do roll calls or anything.
