Family of three going to San Francisco for a week over the summer. Travel and hotel locked up.
I'm looking for tips about California Academy of Sciences, Ferry Building Market, Alcatraz, and etc.
Restaurants for any of 3 meal times appreciated.
We're thinking about taking a short drive down the highway to Santa Cruz. Any suggestions on what do there in a short time?

Thanks in advance

One recommendation is to drive 280 down to Los Gatos and take the road up over the ridge that goes down to Pescadero. You'll pass through a dreamy redwood grove that you can stop and take a short hike through. Amazing. In Pecadero eat lunch at Duartes, get the cream of green chilli soup.

Take 1 south to Santa Cruz and stop at one of the beaches before you get there, I'd stop at Panther then walk under the natural bridge to Seven-Mile...heaven.

The Pier area is cool. Rent a bike and ride from Pier 39 across the Golden Gate Bridge up to the lookout point at Battery Spencer.

Parks in San Francisco are really cool. I spent a whole day just walking around the city to different parks. Mission Dolores Park is one of the best views of the skyline. Take a picnic.

Muir woods is a must see. Drive over the golden gate bridge. Go see the woods for a few hours. Maybe go to Sausalito for a bit.

Napa is cool. Go to a winery or two. It's an easy day trip from SFO.

If you want to Alcatraz book tickets NOW, it books up well in advance. Muir woods is close, so is Point Reyes.

Japanese Tea Garden is a good place to chill and take in the scenery.

There is a great boardwalk/amusement park on ocean in Santa Cruz. Old time fun. Don't miss it especially if you have kids with you.I think they filmed the movie "Lost Boys" there.
