Hey peeps, any recommendations for Portland? Where to stay, restaurants, things to do? Traveling there for 3 days with my wife, but have never been there before and really don't know much about the city.

Thanks. I searched the travel board, but didn't think to search the food and drink board. I appreciate it.

October weather is going to be iffy. Probably won't be that cold, but could be overcast. If overcast, you may not see the mountains. The coast is good even if overcast. The clouds are kind of cool in the mountains. I took this a few weeks back.
Lots of cool stuff to do in Portland. If you get in early on Sunday, go check out the Saturday Market on the riverfront.

Decided on downtown. Booked Hyatt House.

Yup. October weather could be anything. Might be rainy and cool, or it might be sunny and warm. The weather shouldn't stop you from having a good time.
I'll try to post some places near your hotel later, but if you want to see nature, you'll want to drive out of Portland. The Oregon coast is about 70 miles west of Portland. Mr Hood is about the same distance to the east.

The Hyatt House is a little south of downtown, in a quieter location near the river. Most of the action is a little further north, towards Burnside.
There are lots of restaurants nearby. Veritable Quandry, Higgins, Tasty and Alder, Little Bird, and many others.
For an inexpensive casual bite, if the weather is good, the food cart pod on 10th and Alder st has about 60 food carts with just about any kind of ethnic food you could want. Also, Lardo is a nice spot for a sandwich, but there are so many
There is a lot of good people watching to be had downtown, especially as you get into the Pearl District and closer to the river (you never know what you'll see in the area around Voo Doo Donuts).
You can catch 3 world-class brewpubs right next to each other if you go to the Deschutes/10 Barrel/Fathead's triad just north of Burnside around 10th to 13th Ave.
There are also some great restaurants just east of the river. Le Pigeon, Produce Row, Olympia Provisions, and many more. East of the river tends to be a bit more hipster and eclectic (in a good way). Base Camp Brewing is a great place to end the night. The view of downtown from that side of the river is fantastic, and they have a really cool outdoor area with firepits. Cascade Barrel House is close by if you like sour beers, and The Commons Brewery has some great saison/farmhouse style beers.
Make sure you stop to see Multnomah Falls - about 40 minutes east of Portland. It's a multi-tiered 600 foot waterfall that is very easy to get to. You can pair this with a trip to Hood River, which is spectacular on a sunny day - especially if you cross over to the Washington side where you can see the town of Hood River framed by Mt Hood.

Have fun. I had a great trip there in June. Second the reccs on the food truck block, Pok Pok, and the ice cream place. Powells Bookstore is also worth a couple of hours at least.

the food truck block,
I like Nong’s Khao Man Gai. They serve one thing: Chicken and rice. But, damn, it's good. That garlic sauce they put on it is fantastic.

If you have time, rent a car and drive over to the coast - Depoe Bay or visit the wineries just outside of Portland. Check out Youngberg Hill winery in McMinnville

If you're going to be in McMinnville, check out the Evergreen Aviation & Space Museum. That is where Howard Hughe's Spruce Goose lives. It's the largest airplane ever constructed, and it's made entirely of wood.

Recommendations for Portland?
Portland City Grill has very good food and one of the best views of the city. Very similar to J Alexander's, Houston's or Bandera's.
Their pork chop is what I always get.
