Going for 4 nights early October. Right now leaning towards ritz Carlton thru Amex for $490 a night with one night free.

Open to other suggestions but anywhere decent looks to be at least $300 or more.

The Ritz is sweet. I could recommend the Hyatt Maui in Lahaina which is where I stay. It's very, very nice. Not Grand Hyatt Kauai nice, but very nice. I have heard great things about The Westin Maui and The Sheraton Maui has a great location next to Black Rock. All those are in Lahaina.I like that spot because you can walk the path to restaurants, shopping and bars.

I would choose the Ritz over these though.

I think that place tries too hard. It is so posh it almost doesn't "feel" Hawaiian. Nice views across the channel though.

My wife and I stayed at the Marriott resort in Wailea for our honeymoon. The rooms were a tad bit dated but the grounds were absolutely incredible. Plus it's an older and quieter crowd than you will get in Lahaina.

You are looking in a bunch of wrong places. Do you want to go to Maui and just stay at the resort or do you want to get out and do other things? Will you have a car? What are your other plans? Hallekala? Road to Hana? Heading to Lahaina? Look in Kehei....easy to find things for around $200/night with full kitchens.

If youre going to Maui and plan on hanging around your resort, you're going to the wrong place and if you're going to spend that much money and not be at your resort you're kinda overspening IMO

Look on VRBO at places like Sugar Beach Resort and others in the area. Kihei is situated in a great place...close to the airport, close to costco/walmart for shopping, close to Maui brewing, 30 minutes or so to Lahaina, etc

Mainly wanting to relax at a resort. We are new to parenthood and would like a few days away to unwind. We are going to Maui because we have miles with virgin america and they a. were having a sale on flights to maui and b. maui was one of the few destinations that virgin flies direct from LA. The other option was direct to honolulu or go to cabo with a long layover in san francisco.

I've heard great things about the Ritz so I don't think you would be disappointed at all with what you get. Hawaii can be done so many different ways but usually Maui is more of a place that people get out and about, sorry for the misguided advice earlier.

If Honolulu is still a viable option, Disney's Aulani in Kapolei (with the small child) would probably be awesome too.

We went in December. Island hopped for 10 days. Our travel agent put us in The Sheraton for 200 per night. It was very nice and I had zero complaints. Would highly recommend

I stayed at the Westin Maui (we liked it), the good thing is all the hotels are within walking distance for shops and restaurants and luau's.

Despite the price I'm strongly leaning towards the ritz as the 4th night free mitigates some cost and the Amex fine hotels program gets us free breakfast every day plus a $100 resort credit.

My cousin works for Hilton/Waldorf so I'm seeing if she can get me a good deal at the Waldorf Astoria resort.

I'm partial to the Wailea area. The Grand Wailea, Four Seasons and Fairmont are all on a walking path apart from each other - I've stayed at all of them on different trips. If you bring the kid, the Grand Wailea is probably best. The FS is the swankiest and typically most expensive. There is something really special about the Fairmont IMHO, though.

You'd be just down the road from Kihei and Makena, and not too far of a drive from Lahaina and Kahului.

Every website I've looked at has the four seasons, ritz, fairmont, Waldorf and andaz as the best resorts. They are all an arm and a leg.

My first priority is a great pool, second is beach access.

I'm guessing I can't go wrong at any of these places, I was just hoping to find something good for like $250 a night which doesn't look realistic.

Appreciate all the recommendations

It's not necessary a resort but what 4444 is saying about Kihei is how we went. Across the street from a public beach...kamaole ...watched the sun come up every day with the beach to ourselves...

Condo was stocked with beach chairs, an umbrella, two small coolers, full kitchen, washer and dryer, resort had a pool and hot tub, BBQ pits and all was under $200/night

From our lanai looking left

Looking straight..beach is just on the other side of those lillies. Maybe 25 yards.

Looking to the right from my Lanai

Sugar Beach is down where the star is...nice size beach we essentially had to ourselves every single day.

I stayed at the Fairmont last year and it is great. It is a little away from shopping areas but if you have a car it is easy to get to town or up to Haleakala or to the other parts of the island.

The Sheraton has exactly what you are looking for. They have 3 or 4 pools and beach access. We stayed for 200 a night. This place was extremely nice for a Sheraton. I was pleasantly surprised.

In relation we stayed at a Sheraton in Kauai and it was pretty plain

Stayed here at The Grand Wailea a couple times, really nice place. Hilton just recently made it better for friends and family rates so I'd say definitely try this route. The others mentioned ITT are nice as well.
