After a very rough trip this past week on American, I think it may be time to look into status on another airline. The only two other options are United or Delta, with my opinions of Delta much higher than United.

For those of you delta elites, do you think it'd be worth it to do a status match to become a Gold member? At this point of the year I think the status would last until the end of January 2018. I'm in the process of booking trips to DCA and TXL before the end of february so I should easily make the 15,000 MQMS. I'm looking online currently at the benefits and it seems like they're the same as platinum on AA, except for unlimited comp upgrades and waved same day confirmed fees on Delta. I guess I could get used to flying through Atlanta instead of Dallas to get anywhere. Any recommendations are appreciated

Cuse- as a diamond I am happy to comment on any questions. The same day change feature is the best. That is super helpful. As a gold you won't get a ton of upgrades to first but can get some. You should get a bit more to economy comfort + which has more room and free drinks. You also earn more miles per dollar.

Who do you partner with for hotels? If you use SPG there are some great crossover benefits possible.

How much do you travel and is MSY your home airport?

This is me as a Gold. I'm probably 90% for upgrades to Comfort+ and about 20% for FC upgrades...mainly on BTR-ATL.

The free same day change function is the most important benefit for me.

Currently don't have a hotel partner, just kind of go with whatever hotel is closest to my destination. If there are good benefits with SPG then that may be a good place for me to start with using a hotel chain consistently.

As of current BTR, but if I find a decent deal I'll fly out of MSY. Travel for work internationally to europe or asia maybe 2-3 times a year, domestically probably 10-15 trips either for work or leisure.

So with SPG there are crossover rewards. I get SPG points for flying delta and delta miles for stays at SPG. If you had status with SPG it could help you with your Delta status and influence.

You could also get a delta Amex (my reserve card gets me 30k MQMs with 60k in spend). It also get me skyclub access as well.

I rarely fly from BTR and no club may not be important. However I will tell you a bad day on Delta is better than a good one on American in my mind.

This. I know I was complaining about the DL irop last night but they have managed any delay infinitely better than their peers.

And that's exactly why I'm considering the status match. I'm just tired of AA employees not knowing their own rules and their unwillingness to help during irrops.

With the Amex reserve it is included In the $450 annual fee. With the other Amex you get it for like $29 a visit. A long layover and two drinks at the bar makes it a wash.

Yes. You have SkyTeam elite status.

And DL in my experience has charged it's employees and IT system with "get the passenger to where they need to be" as the priority during irops.

I've been auto moved into F when that was the only seat available, given my choice of nearly any alternate airport I could think of, and been auto credited with miles for major delays.

I had a delay once where I was coming back to BTR and needed to be in Pensacola the day after. DL had major delays and they had no problem just sending me to PNS since I needed to be there the next day and the delay wouldn't guarantee me getting back to BTR to meet my ride.

I think that with gold you get free access to Skyteam clubs when you travel internationally, but still have to pay during domestic travel.

Correct. I missed the domestic part. International is free access with ST Elite. Would have to pay for domestic access.

I thought sky club was only free (for non diamond/ non members) when traveling first class?

Nope. SkyTeam Elite+ (correction from earlier...its ST Elite Plus) receives sky club access on any international flight.

There are 4 AMEX Delta cards. 2 types, each with personal and business version. Depending on how much you spend in a year, you can actually "spend your way to diamond" in a year since all of them earn you MQM. But that's an extreme scenario (You need to spend $240k total).

But it could easily be the difference between re-earning gold or bumping up to Platinum with a combination of flying + spending + spg crossover rewards.

Further, AmEx plat comes with sky club access when you're flying Delta. The Delta reserve card comes with skyclub membership meaning you can access it regardless of whether you're flying Delta or flying at all.

Sorry for the bump, but have a question. The status match kicked in last week and I've taken 5 flights with only 1 being on time (not my best travel year). Yesterday at Newark my ticket had to be changed from EWR-MSP-ATL-BTR to EWR-RDU-ATL-BTR after a 4 1/2 hour maintenance delay and I'm wondering what's the easiest way to request original routing credit for the flights through Minneapolis? Is there a gold # to call and talk with a skymiles person or should I do it online? Normally I wouldn't care all that much but I actually need to fly 12,500 miles for this status match. Thanks

If the response doesn't work, call or fill out one of the missing complaint forms.

If you do have to fill out the form, keep it simple: "Itinerary ABC123 experienced MX delay. Requesting original routing credit for flight purchased."

ETA: you may just want go fill out the form vs. the link I sent you. Also, wait and fill the form out once the miles post from the trip.

Perfect, thanks. This whole year has just been 1 delay after the next, even landing at jfk on friday night we got near the gate and stopped just short of the gate cause there was no ground crew. Meannwhile 50 people stood up because they had tight connections and thought we were at the gate. Took 30 min for everyone to sit back down and also make sure the guy in my row didn't get kicked off for calling the flight attendants "fricking hypocrites"

Went 5/5 for upgrades to comfort + and 1/5 to first
