Looking to make a full day of it, coming from Slidell. Which ones are close enough to each other so that we might hit 3-4 in a day? Any advice is appreciated...

There are some between Baton Rouge and New Orleans along the Mississippi river, including Houmas House. Hit those and make sure you don't miss Houmas House

There are a bunch in Natchez if you ever go there. My favorite is Longwood, which was under construction when the Civil War started and as a result was never finished.

Houmas House and Nottoway are not that far from each other. To me the star at Houmas House is the grounds, the house is just okay.

Only one I have been to in Louisiana is Oak Alley. I liked it.

Oak Alley is the mecha. I grew up there and am still amazed by its history and natural beauty. By visiting it you can also catch Laura plantation.

I'd suggest Laura, Houma's House and Nottoway. In that order, but all our great.

Why not hit Destrehan, San Francisco and then Houmas House on the way to BR. Then cross the river and see Nottoway, Whitney and Oak Alley.

That dude Cummings, the one funding the removal of the monuments in NO, has set up a "Disneyland for White Guilt" at Whitney Plantation if you are into self flagellation. If not, I'd bypass that one.

go to wafb.com and they have an offer for 4 tours at a great price that you cannot beat all within easy driving of each other. We did it in two days and did an overnight at one of them.Great spring weekend!!

Been to Longwood a few times. Pretty amazing what the actual house would have been like completely finished as the first floor alone is huge. Also did some really cool things with the natural lighting, especially for those days.

This basically sums it up, but Tezcuco is no longer as it burned to the ground in 2002. All of these are within a reasonable distance from each other, I doubt you would have time to do all of them in one day though. Houma's House and Oak Alley should both be on your list

Driving in from Slidell, go south on LA 1 and hit Nottoway first, then Oak Alley, skip Laura, cross the Mississippi River, turn left on the other side, walk the grounds of the Convent, then finish up at Houmas House.
For Dinner:
Houmas House $$$$ - reservations recommended

The Cabin Restaurant $$$ - constructed from old slave quarters. Hwy 44 at Hwy 22

Hymel's - $$(my favorite) Hole in the wall local joint with great food. It's on River Road just before the Sunshine Bridge.

Do not eat at the cabin if your expecting good food or service, only eat there if you just want to check the place out on the inside. It is a pretty neat place and touristy but much better food in the area. I used to live right next to the cabin and gave it a chance a few times over the years and it never got better.

My recommendation would be Grapevine Café and Gallery in downtown Donaldsonville.

I recommend the crawfish cornbread appetizer, the crawfish stuffed chicken breast or the pork tenderloin ribeye entrée, and the white chocolate bread pudding for dessert.

Hymel's as mentioned before, is also a great spot.

Was married in the White Ballroom at Nottoway. Have toured the place and stayed in the cottages and in a few different rooms in the house. It's our favorite and the Mansion Restaurant destroys Houma's House.

The grounds are like a botanical paradise at Houma's House but the house is meh and honestly wayyyyy overdone. You don't put a Vampire display in the children's bedroom and try to show off both simultaneously on the tour. I'm there for authenticity and history and they have missed the mark with what they're going for.

Nottoway is far and away the most opulent. Laura is far and away the most authentic. Oak Alley had the best Mint Juleps and the most beautiful views. Though Evergreen has an unexpectedly staggering stretch of oaks leading in that people forget about.

I would suggest doing Laura and Nottoway. They are both massive sugar plantations, but they represent the stark cultural differences between traditional wealthy Creole sugar plantation families and their Anglo counterparts.

Doing both on the same day is fantastic for driving these points home. I'd also suggest following Laura up with its companion tour in NOLA that takes you through that families French Quarter property holdings, St. Louis Cemetary 1, the Pharmacy Museum and the Louisiana Historical Collection. It also really focused on the Creole experience in the City and what it means to be Creole, and how they differed and yet coexisted with Anglos in Louisiana and NOLA as this area evolved.
