If staying in Manhattan does it make a huge difference whether you fly into LGA or EWR?

And anyone ever had issues booking a package deal through Expedia, Orbitz, etc?

Depends where in New York you're staying

LaGuardia has typically been 15 mins or so closer for me but I usually book the cheapest fare.

Never booked a package deal through Expedia etc

I'm gonna get hate but Times Square. Trip with my 15 yo daughter ... want to be close to Broadway plays, etc. I know it's the touristy thing to do but it'll just be us and I'd like to feel safe wherever I go. This will be our first time there alone -- maybe next time I'll venture out.

EWR is cheaper in most instances for what I'm finding and if it's only about 15 minutes difference who cares.

And I'm hesitant with Expedia from a few bad reviews I read about hotels being overbooked and "non direct bookings" getting kicked out. I guess I should say relocated.

EWR is just a nicer and better run airport too in my experience. LGA is kind of dumpy and always a nightmare for me. Just allow plenty of time going back out to it when you leave

I'm inpatient, so I prefer LGA because you jump in a cab and go straight to your destination. If traveling alone, consider Newark, but if you have others with you and suitcases, having a cab is preferable imho. If going solo with a small carry on/backpack, Newark is fine (assuming the train from Newark and a cab from Laguardia). Do not recommend a cab from Newark.

It's $100 cab ride from ewr into the city. Half that from lga or jfk

Do Laguardia. You don't want to be schepping a large suitcase that a 15 yo will pack from terminal to train to penn station to subway to the few blocks to your hotel just to save twenty bucks.

My wife and I just flew into Newark and took subway into NYC and stayed around 44th and 6th. I took a black car service back to the airport due to limited time. LGA is a bit more convenient to your area. Can't comment on Orbitz/Expedia.

My parents live in NYC, though down in the East Village and not in Times Square / Midtown. I always prefer to fly into Newark (EWR) and take NJ Transit (Northeast Corridor) to Penn Station and either walk / Uber.

ETA: depending on the age of your daughter, and the amount of luggage you have, Times Square area is walkable from Penn Station. It's a straight-shot up 7th.

It doesn't mater. There is a train from Newark to NYC that you can take. Costs $10 or so. A Cab from LGA to the midtown will cost around $45.

Have fun that is a great age for a kid. I fly delta and LGA is just fine. Super quick trip in. I like to cab with luggage and not use public transportation.

As long as you don't go through Newark you'll be fine

If you're going to the east side, LGA. West side, EWR.

Your not the hotel or airlines customer if you don't book through their site. I would always avoid doing that if at all possible.

JFK and Newark are both really easy to get into Penn Station. Get on the train at the airport and ride for 30-45 minutes - arrive at Penn Station.

I don't mind taking a cab from LaGuardia, but it's more expensive and depending on time of day - may not save you much time.

If you have a bunch of people/luggage take a cab from whichever airport is cheapest. If it's you and a carryon, fly Newark or JFK and take the train.

Thanks everyone. It'll just be my 15 yo dtr and myself. Last time we went for her 8th grade "class trip" we were able to pack for a week in one large suitcase and each had a carryon. So that part shouldn't be too awful.

Oh - and book all your stuff separately through each provider.

If something goes haywire, the Orbitz crowd are the last concern to customer service.

LGA and JFK are both easy enough. I prefer to take black car service to and from the airport. It's not much different over a taxi and they're waiting for you at the airport. I've stayed at several hotels in Times Square, but I always recommend Double Tree because it's a good mix of value, size, and location. I'm bringing my 11 y.o. daughter and 15 y.o. son this summer. I use hotels.com for everything.
