NOLA is a world class city - easily top 5 in America

I spent the first 30 years of my life in New Orleans and so my impressions were baked in.
I've purposely spent only one weekend in NO over the past 5 years (since moving away) and now that I'm revisiting, I'm blown away at how beautiful and vibrant and amazing the entire downtown is.
I know this city has problems, but it's easily in the top 5 in America to visit. Only NYC, Boston, SF, LA, (and Maybe Chicago and Miami) would rank above it. I realize there is a huge difference between spending 5 days here as a tourist and raising a family here, so this is regarding tourism.
Before this trip I'd have definitely ranked San Diego, Seattle, Nashville, Washington DC, and Denver above NOLA. No chance now.

Amazing people watching (arguably best in America), Architecture, history, art, scenery, the incredible hotels (I think a hotel lobby walking tour in No would be fantastic), land based non-Indian casino, scrip clubs, the slow pace of life, unique shopping - so much more than food.
As I get older, the people watching is so fun to me. I went to LSU and grew up here in NO, so I never noticed how unique this Southern Belle and southern gentleman phenomenon is - where young folks get dolled up to the nines to go out for brunch or walk around the town. People don't really do that in the Midwest or Boston or Seattle or San Francisco or NYC. Only the SE and Tejas and AZ from what I've seen

As a tourist destination New Orleans is easily top 5 in the country.
I'd never live there though

There is a nightclub on gravier that for about 18 months was by far the best place to be in New Orleans - close to loa in the international house - now it's all urban. Just curious about the name and when that happened?
No sign and I can't remember name

New Orleans could never rank above San Diego in any possible way other than food.

I had the best holiday of my life last November in NO. The culture blew me away.
A few rough spots, but you get that everywhere. It reminded me of Dublin in some ways. A really good vibe.
Can't wait to return

This.
You offer me a free all-expense paid trip to both and I have to choose which city....San Diego will win in a landslide. Wayyyyy more to do in San Diego/surrounding area.

Usually when the culture blows you away, it's after they took your wallet and keys

It's nice to visit for a weekend but it's a shitty city.

Places like Galatoires, Arnoud's, Antoines, Broussard's, Commanders etc. all have dress codes you must abide by for Brunch. Maybe this is what the OP means by southern belles and gentalman.
We were at Luke yesterday for brunch and noticed folks who were in t shirts and shorts were sat in the back of the restaurant.
