The SO and I enjoy staying diferent places when we go down. We look to stay away from your typical Raddison/Marriott/Holiday Inn type hotels:

We have stayed at:

Old No. 77 Hotel and Chandlery
Le Meridien
Monteleone
Royal Sonesta
Lafitte Guest House

We are looking to stay at the Pelham Hotel next go around. Has anyone ever stayed there? If so, I'd love some first hand reviews that are not YELP.

I stayed at Le Pavillon a couple of weeks ago and really like it. It's worth a look.

Don't know much about it.
I suggest you look at the Ace Hotel or Ponchatrain Hotel. Both are new (or major renovation for the Ponchatrain) and have kick arse outdoor upstairs bars and great restaurants.

I agree with the Ponchatrain Hotel. They just remodeled it. Both the piano bar and the roof top bar are really nice!

I stayed in one of the deluxe rooms at the Hotel Mazarin a while back and found it to be really enjoyable...boutique hotel, so it certainly had a different twist than the chains do.

Try The Omni Royal Orleans. They usually offer specials on their website.

I've stayed there many times, request a room on the first floor. Definitely a neat boutique hotel.

I stayed at the Pelham years ago before I moved to New Orleans. I was not impressed. I like location of the Renaissance Arts. When I would travel here for work I would often times stay at the Pere Marquette, which I also like.

Reason behind the first floor request?

I've always stayed at Royal Sonesta or Monteleone.

Personally I like RS better.

Hotel Mazarin is now #1 choice when getting a hotel in New Orleans. I really like that place.
