KATC- ACADIANA REGIONAL AIRPORT

The airport will specialize in short, no-frill flights to Houston and New Orleans, and hopes these flights will boost business between the cities.

I know United was working to get some Houston bound early morning and evening flights for business commuters.

A cheap NOLA flight would be cool too. Lots of cheap airlines out of there like Allegiant, Spirit, Frontier, Southwest, and GLO.

I'm sorry, but I don't see this is a viable business plan. How far is the drive and how much time are you saving with parking, security, etc and then finding transportation in either city when you get there?

Why would United expand right down the road to New Iberia when they barely want to be in Lafayette?

Apparently there is/was a market for business travelers wanting quick day trips. Of course the terminal construction began back before the downturn.

The LFT-DEN flights were a bust.

None of those airlines are going to start service to ARA.

United flys chartered flights to ARA for Haliburton execs and employees. It looks like the taxpayers got hosed into paying for a facility upgrade for Haliburton.

Will flight attendants have a new Iberia haircut?

Not what I meant. A small carrier could connect from ARA to MSY. From there catch a flight on the LCC's.

They were only a bust because oil went to $40bbl.

With the amount of data the legacy carriers have, they will never attempt to create demand. They will simply respond to it. UA saw a high number of LFT/DEN o&d traffic, had an available aricraft, and put it to use on the route.

As for this New Iberia service...

Anybody have a clue on prices for Houston? Will it be hobby or iah? I visit MD Anderson regularly and can never find a good rate (around 200) when I need it. Typically LFT on united will be around 3-40, but sometimes way higher. Ain't gonna happen, but I'd love for either Nee Iberia or Lafayette to have a southwest terminal.

Considering that none of those LCCs offer any interline agreements it would be a huge PITA to connect at MSY (or anywhere).

quote:

Devillier said the ARA had more than 3,000 passengers in 2013, slightly less in 2014, and only 880 in 2015, when “oil and gas really started going down.”

Devillier said the airport plans to offer “short hops, no frills” round-trip flights to places like Houston and New Orleans.

The quote above is from another article dated Dec. 1st. They seem to think some no-frills airline is just going to come in and offer service now.

The taxpayers just got screwed out of a $1 million so 800 Haliburton employees a year don't have to sit in a conference room to wait for their flight.

I just think when the economy improves for us there will be a market. Not just for Halliburton. There's a also a helicopter operator on the airport that may utilize it one day.

Like the 1 cent sales tax for LFT? Zero improvements there.

The drive from New Iberia to NOLA is only like 2 hours, there is no way anyone would actually decide to take that flight when it will cost more and probably take longer once you factor in parking at the airport, check in, taxiing on the runways, getting bags, and still having to drive in to Nola from Kenner.

Same thing for Houston except you are driving even farther if you land at IAH and have to drive into downtown or other major business centers in Houston.
