Need Boston/Maine suggestions

I'm Going to Upstate NY with my wife and three 16 year-olds for my oldest son's college graduation and commissioning over the Memorial Day weekend. We will finish all school activities on Saturday, and have Sunday and Monday free. We have to be at JFK on Tuesday morning.
My children have been to NYC, so we are thinking of heading east towards Boston. We are looking for suggestions of things to do and places to eat. We are open to the idea of going up to Southern Maine for a lobster. We have thought about doing the Freedom Trail, since my 16 year-olds are studying the Founding Fathers in school. Anything suggestions for cool things to do for both parents and kids?

The thought never crossed my mind. Now that you mention it, though...

If you post your email I'll send you some suggestions. Been in Boston for a few years now, happy to help.

Samuel Adams has a brewery in Boston its pretty nice. Go to a Red Sox game while your there. Fenway park is a must see.

The Freedom Trail in Boston is muy excellente for 16 year-olds.
The USS Constitution is part of it. I love Boston.
Congrats on the graduate.

Freedom Trail was really neat.

OP, I'll send you that e-mail this morning.
I would recommend not doing Sam Adams. Extremely touristy and overrated. There are tons of breweries that are easier to get to, have better beer, and for some give better tours (and honestly, if you've done one brewery tour, you've pretty much done them all).
Breweries worth visiting in Boston: Harpoon, Nightshift, Aeronaut, and Trillium. Just to name a few. If you only go to one, go to Harpoon. Better tour than Sam Adams, better beer than Sam Adams, and much easier to get to. They also do homemade pretzels with dipping sauces made from their beer, which is killer. If you're able to go to two, make it Harpoon and Aeronaut.
Breweries worth visiting in Maine: I've honestly only had a chance to go to breweries in Portland, but that is by far the best city in the state for beer. Rising Tide, Bissell Brothers, Allagash, and Foundation are all really close to one another (some of those listed are literally all in the same complex, so you can park your car in the parking lot and enjoy all of them in one fell swoop). If you end up in Portland, go to Otto and get the pizza with mashed potatoes and chives on it. I know it sounds strange, but just trust me. It's amazing.

You can get to Kennebunk area of Maine in about 45 minutes from airport. Lobster places all over that are fresh and really good.
A lot of different places have their own take on Lobster Roll, really good wherever you go.

Regarding the Freedom Trail: I echo the statements of other posters, it's certainly worth doing.
I would like to add that you can do the tour on your own rather than pay to follow around someone wearing colonial garb. Just download a free app on your phone and it will guide you along the route and have descriptions of all the stops. The pros are that you can go at your own pace, and even stop into some historical pubs (listed in the e-mail I sent you) along the way, the con is that you would probably learn a bit more with a guide. Personally, I hate being a part of tour groups, but to each their own.

Mike's Pastries in the North End
-Get a lobstertail (it's a pastry, not seafood)
Fenway tour/game
Get a lobster roll somewhere

Popular spot, but two warnings: the lines are always long, and they only accept cash.
If you want a more local pastry shop in the North End, I recommend Bova.

Isn't the USS Constitution in dry dock until next May?
Recently got back from Boston. Freedom Trail was cool; I did the guided tour, which only went from the Boston Common to Fanueil Hall. I wouldn't recommend it, as I think the time would've been better spent walking through and maybe following one of the Freedom Trail apps along the way.
Harpoon Brewery was a good time, although we missed out on the tour because it was booked up for the day when we got there. I'd recommend booking the tour ahead of time. Cool setting and decent beer. Yankee Lobster is a short walk from there, and we really enjoyed the lobster roll there.
Also visited Trillium and Cambridge Brewing Company. Trillium was a quick in-out purchase and lived up to the expectations, Cambridge is more of a gastropub right off MIT's campus, although they do growler fills and specialty bottles as well. There's an awesome brunch place called The Friendly Toast around the corner from there if you plan to venture out there.
North End has a ton of Italian options of course, but if you're interested in a no-frills pizza place with a classic atmosphere, I liked the original Regina Pizzeria location. Mike's Pastry was packed, and as someone said cash only, but worth a stop if you're in the North End.

Not an option at the moment. Restorative work being done.

Hope you enjoyed the trip.
The Friendly Toast is amazing. Might be my favorite breakfast in the city - and I'm a man who loves him some breakfast. (FYI for the OP- that's in Kendall Square if you are interested in checking it out)

Thanks! Definitely enjoyed it, even though we were ill-prepared for the mid-40s and rainy weather all week.

Yeah the weather last week was miserable. Cloudy and rainy every single day.
