A buddy and I are looking at going somewhere this weekend and it looks like Nashville is the most likely candidate. I looked online and plan on doing the following:

Music and Drinking downtown
Johnny Cash Museum
Walk around Vanderbilt Campus for an hour
Centennial Park to see The Parthenon (I was in Greece last month so it's funny)
Also thinking about Andrew Jackson's Hermitage. Is it worth the time to get out there?

Any recommendations are highly appreciated!

ETA:

Okay so here's what I'm thinking

Friday: Check in to hotel, go downtown, find music and beer

Saturday:
Uber to Centennial Park, walk through Vanderbilt, Walk through Music Row and down Demonbreun Street to downtown. Find lunch. Johnny Cash Museum. Tennessee State Capitol. Marathon Village. Germantown. Five Points. Pharmacy Burger for dinner. Go clean up and hit the town again Saturday night.

Sunday:
Andrew Jackson's Hermitage then uber to BNA.

Mid 20's. I like the idea of seeing Andrew Jackson's Hermitage for the history there. Not picky on food. Good beer.

Not sure where we are staying yet. Probably wherever I can find a good hotel for cheap with Hilton points. I'd rather get a cheap hotel and pay $50 for a rental car than stay downtown and pay $$$$.

Unless you're planning on going somewhere outside the city, then go for uber rather than rental cars. You'll be paying to park pretty much everywhere and an uber will be cheaper in the long run.

There will be probably 500 bachelorette parties roaming the city.

Go down to the 12 South Area. Look at AirBnbs there. If you like vinyl, check out third man records.

Check it out then. The tour is like $20. If you are into Civil War history, Franklin, TN (20 minutes South) has a lot to offer.

If walking around Vanderbilt, go to the Peabody Campus as it is nicer. Belmont is really nice too and is adjacent to it. You can also walk up and down Music Row if you are right there.

If you check out Centennial Park, Musicians Corner has started up, so you'll be able to hear some free music. Not sure who is playing this weekend.

Neighborhoods to walk/check out:
East Nashville - particularly Five Points
Germantown
12 South
Elliston Place
Midtown/Demonbreun

When downtown:
Acme Feed and Seed - 4 story bar, great rooftop
Robert's Western World - favorite spot for music
George Jones Museum - another good music/rooftop bar spot
The Hermitage Hotel - cool bar for a drink
Johnny Cash Museum, The Ryman, and Country Music Hall of Fame are all right there for tours.

Favorite breweries:
Bearded Iris
Southern Grist
Smith and Lentz
New Heights Brewery
Tennessee Brew Works

I'd check out Marathon Village too.

Martin's BBQ on Belmont Blvd (NOT the downtown location)

Barista parlor in Germantown for the best cup of coffee you'll ever have. Bonus if you go Saturday morning - lazzarolis deli around the corner makes fresh mozzarella only on Saturday mornings and it's usually sold out by noon. Pick it up and eat the damn thing like a peach. Is ridiculously good. Also Christie cookie factory is next door and they will buzz you in and sell you 2 cookies for a buck instead of $5 each everywhere else.

Bishop's in cool springs for Hattie B's hot chicken without the 2 hour line

Westin rooftop bar for the view

Pharmacy for burgers and the amazing beer garden in East Nashville but be prepared for at least an hour wait

Rose pepper for a fantastic margarita and the vibe. Bonus - go across the street to five daughters and get the best damn crossiant donut ever. They usually sell out before they close so you might go grab a donut to eat later while waiting for your table at Rose pepper

Anywhere in the gulch for the hottest women you'll ever see

Eta I would avoid lower Broadway like the plague but that's just me. Be prepared for 817 pedal taverns with screaming drunk women clogging traffic in every direction

You do realize places go out of business and new restaurants open by the dozens every day in Nashville right?

Who wants stale advice?

Pick a different city. Chicago is 8 hours away.

Outer circumference of the new Arena. Look for the Musicians Hall of Fame. Very unheralded, and killer stuff in there.

Nashville hot chicken is to be avoided at all cost.

I LOVE chicken and decided to go to Prince's one time while in Nashville.

A TERRIBLE dining experience---think greasy and extraordinarily hot even if you order the medium.

I tried it again at another place thinking that Prince's was the problem---nope.

They are too close to yankee land---they think spice is simply hot.

One good restaurant I enjoy is the one in the Omni hotel.--Kitchen Notes. They have a good brunch. They call their cuisine "contemporary Southern".

Although a tourist spot the Loveless Cafe is go-to spot out of town a little ways near the Natchez Trace.

Look a trip to the Grand Ole Opry is a good call regardless of whether or not you like country music. The performers are very talented. You can get a high priced high ball and enjoy the show.

i'm sure at least 1/2 dozen on my original listing back in 2013 or more.

plus better places exist now, so no reason to say what was popular 5 years ago is still relevant.

why does it matter?
