Never been to Ethiopia but I did a mission trip to Kenya 10 years ago. Was an amazing experience.
Make sure to research the needed vaccines/malaria medication before you go.
Also research where in Ethiopia you are going to know if it is a safe area. Research the culture thoroughly there as well so you don't unknowingly insult/offend locals there.
Last...a mission trip is NOT a vacation. If you get to do cool stuff while there, great. But your priority should be going there to serve in whatever capacity you are supposed to serve.

I have to follow this. I have a tight connection in Addis Ababa in March. If I miss it I'll have a full day there so I need to find something to do.
They have "Lucy" there but unfortunately only the cast of the fossil is on display.
I don't know if you're going anywhere else but I know I have to get the yellow fever vaccine for South Africa because I'm touching Ethiopian soil just in case they check. So if you have plans to visit anywhere else watch out for that.

Had to get various Hepatitis and Yellow Fever vaccines. Also had to take malaria pills ("Larium" if I recall) although there may be a better way now. Watch out for the tsetse flies.

If you can bring a rifle, shoot a trophy, feed the village and get a good mount out of it, win/win

My dad lived in Addis Ababa for three years as a child while my granddad oversaw the construction of some university buildings he designed. He has some crazy stories, but this was in the late 50s/early 60s.
I'm sure it would be a blast, so I'd go.

My wife went for a month last year for work and really enjoyed it. I was really worried about it, but it turned out to be pretty safe and fun.

Dr. It was a voluntary trip to teach residents in the Ethiopian hospitals.
