When is the best time to book flights to Germany between Thanksgiving and Christmas. It looks like I found this board a day late for cheap fares a couple weeks ago. I am trying to get my GF back home to visit her family in northern Germany. Flying into Amsterdam would work as well since it is a short train trip to her parents town from there. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!

Ok, update to this. We just booked out of Houston(IAH) to Dusseldorf for $564 each. Its looking like there are some great flights out of Houston right now.

I have. I found flights $660 round trip last week in the morning but they were gone by the time I got home from work to book. I haven't seen them that low since. Hence the topic.

Then you either book now and never look at prices again or you wait to see if they lower again and take a chance they rise.

At this point theres been two recent sales within the past month for us-europe. I'd wait it out until september, most people don't want to travel to europe in early december so you have the purchasing power over the airlines.

Thanks folks. Yeah I think we will wait, as much as I hate doing that, the possibility of saving over a grand is just too tempting. Our backup plan is to go next summer when Condor starts it's flights out of NOLA. We are hoping for some great rates out of NOLA so that she can go home to see her parents more often.

I want to warn you about time of year and the Weather sucks. I was there in October and November and it was freezing, raining, sleeting, and snowing the entire time I was there.

Yeah, I know the weather won't be good, but try telling that to a girl that hasn't seen her parents in 6 years and wants to surprise them for Christmas.

New Orleans to Munich 877 round trip in December right now... LINK

New Orleans to Hamburg 939 round trip in December LINK

Not sure if you're just going to wait until it hopefully falls under 700 again, though. The 800 one isn't a bad deal but you said North Germany.

Yeah, we would have to take a train up to her home town. The train ride from Amsterdam is about an hour and its about 45 minutes from DUS so those are the main ones we are wanting.

Northern Germany around Dusseldorf. Please do and I will do the same. Happy hunting! For both of us!

Yes she said there is a rail line less than a mile from her parents house. If the Flights from NOLA to Frankfurt on Condor stay affordable, we will be spending much more time in Germany in the coming years. I'm thinking of doing 10 days this trip with a couple in the Netherlands to explore there as well. We will probably get a rail pass.

ETA: It looks like it is a 2 and a half hour train ride from Frankfurt. Not too bad.

Generally speaking the best time to book flights is 60-90 days out as that is when they are trying to fill them up. So I wouldn't worry about waiting, especially for the fall. Airlines are worried about the summer right now, once August is over the fall and winter deals will start.

Obviously this is outside of other specials that are run.
