Looking for somewhere reasonable travel from Houston (drive or short flights), ideally outdoor focused activities hiking, rafting, etc... Later in Sept.

What are some good options?

We just booked a trip to Red Rocks and Rocky Mountain National Park from Houston last weekend of September. Looks like the peak fall foliage will be that time.

Anywhere in the mountain towns in Colorado. Buena Vista, Breck, Steamboat, etc.

The rafting won’t be great this time of year. Late May-mid July is generally the rafting season.

I know we’ve had some threads in the past about this area, but would you mind sharing a few ideas for some little towns, places to stay, and specific activities?

Fly into XNA (Fayetteville/Bentonville). Rent a car and drive to Eureka Springs/hike at Devils Den state park/rent bikes in Bentonville/go to Beaver Lake and rent a boat or kayaks.
There are lots of independent not chain restaurants and the museums in Bentonville are all free. There are tons of things to do if you look at those 3 cities.
