Anyone have any luck getting a deal by booking a Gulf condo at the last minute? If so, how late did you wait to book and what deal did you get?

Looking for a studio or 1 BR anywhere from Fort Morgan to Rosemary Beach the last week of August, so I'm thinking there will be plenty of inventory. $95 - 150 seems to be the listed rate for lots of these places, which is not bad at all, but if I can get a deal, it would help tremendously.

Appreciate any advice!

No doubt you can get a good deal just takes time and research. They have a good search function and most of the time you can email owners directly.

I've used VRBO lots, but I've never negotiated a last minute discount. Trying to figure out a fair opening - 30% off advertised rate? Waive the cleaning fee?

ETA: I'm probably going to actually wait until a few days before the trip to start making offers, so I they'll more than likely be facing no occupancy for that time.

What dates are you looking for? If it is peak than a deal will not be easy to be had because many people still book last minute, but if you are talking about like the last week or two in August then yeah that's very possible. I have two places on VRBO FYI and my wife is in the business full time, property management companies will usually drop 20% during off peak to make a reservation you just have to ask for their best rate.

Not sure how many days, but like 8/23 - 8/27. Either a studio or 1 BR (just me and the mister) and we're really not particular to where, as long as it's right on the beach.

I was thinking 20% would be a fair offer, if it's not already marked down. Normally, I just pay the asking price, but money's tight right now. Wouldn't be going at all if we didn't absolutely need some downtime.

I didn't have the best VRBO.com experience with my one time trying to book a beach condo. I know based on many experiences from others that there are deals to be had, but I ended up wasting a lot of time.
Good luck and happy hunting as I'm sure that based on the time frame you are looking at, there will be deals.

If you are looking for a simple no frills condo, the Phoenix properties in Orange Beach are pretty good. Look up Brett Robinson as that is the rental company.
Phoenix X is good if you like the Flora-Bama since it's right next door.

Thanks - good to hear a recommendation! I've saved several of them on VRBO. Probably the largest kitchens of the ones I've found so far.

Yeah, they offer 20% off deals and stay so many nights get free nights, etc quite often.

Just FYI, the Phoenix condos have (or had the last time we went) LOTS AND LOTS of people and the beach is rather "long" with rows and rows of chairs/umbrellas.

I LOVE FWB/Okaloosa Island ... less people, less chairs/umbrellas, more peaceful in my opinion for what I wanted/needed.

I have tried to negotiate last minutes with VBRO and Homeaway people and never really had any luck other than the advertised deals. People didnt seem interested in filling up for a cheaper price

You should be able to get 10-20% off now. 1br are mostly booked less than 6 weeks out, so you are not by any means last minute yet. Last minute for a 1Br is more like 4 days prior to arrival as I bet 20% or more of them are reserved a wee or less away. The larger you get the more out they are reserved, so if you were talking a 6 bedroom house they'd certainly do 20% off right now.

Agree, there are plenty of other places that will not be crowded. Of course once school starts it really slows down.

We went a few years ago last minute. Booked on the Thursday came back on Monday(memorial day)...

even for a holiday weekend they gave it to us for SUPER cheap!

Call Brett Robinson or any other of the properties in the nearby beach towns you are looking into and they will give you a nice deal!

We got a 1 BR at the PHX 7 I believe for around 100 a night on a holiday weekend..I could imagine what kind of last min deal they would do in late august..
