LA must dos

Any tips on "must dos" for a LA trip in June? My wife and I are fairly active, so the beach and hiking trails are appreciated. What about other sights? Any places to stay or avoid?
Also, we wouldn't mind staying in LA for a few days, then maybe Santa Barbra/Santa Moncia/San Diego/ etc?

If you're going to LA, it sounds like Santa Monica or Venice might be the best place for you and your wife to stay.

Sunset Blvd on a Saturday was legit! Or at least used to be.

i always stay by Santa Monica or Brentwood. Your close to everything. My wife and i love to hike and did the Hollywood sign and had a blast.
Check and see if there are any bands in town. Many will play the small clubs on the strip.
LA has a great dining scene. If you're going to be eating in Santa Monica i highly recommend a place called Malbec. Its an Argentinian steakhouse my boss took me to. Had a great atmosphere and your wife will love it. Plenty of wine and great apps and food.
They also have some great sushi joints.
I know its trendy but its fun to go have a cocktail at one of the high end hotels by the strip or in Beverly Hills.
Also, there is a market by the Grove mall called the Original Market. Its tremendous to walk around and see the hundreds of vendors. Great place to grab lunch or breakfast.
have fun. L.A. gets a bad rap due to traffic and such but i love it.

I'd probably recommend Santa Barbara over San Diego as it has more of a quaint small town feel, and traffic from LA to San Diego is an absolute nightmare. driving north to SB isn't nearly as bad.
agree with staying and spending a good amount of time in Santa Monica, Venice or Brentwood.
the sunset strip, while still happening, isn't nearly what it used to be. Most of the top nightlife spots have moved east to the Hollywood area in the last 12 years or so.
