Feel like you don’t hear a lot about Portugal.

Have some friends there now and it looks glorious

Not sure it’s underrated, but probably under appreciated. Everyone I know that’s been there raves about it, but it gets overlooked when people plan European trips, maybe because of its size and an assumption it’s just like Spain.

Never been. Frankly, just never was a place I wanted to go to.

BUT..

Know someone that just got back from the island of Madeira (a Portuguese island). Couldn't recommend it enough.

Google it. Looks beautiful.

I feel like it's gotten trendy. Seems everyone is talking about or has been to Portugal. We went a few years ago and it was great, I want to get back there.

Funny, just booked our family vacation to Portugal. Some super nice AirBnB's in Lisbon and Porto. Looking forward to the seafood, beaches and the medieval towns in between the two cities.

I'm in PHL on my return flight home right now. We just did a week in Ireland and a week in Lisbon.

We're big fans of Portugal now. Friendly people, really good food, really cheap. The city itself isn't that great though. Graffiti covered shitty high rises start to blend together but everything else is awesome.

Lisbon? Lisbon is awesome! I don't know what part you were in but I've never heard anyone saw Lisbon wasn't great.

Not saying Lisbon isn't awesome in aggregate. We stayed a street down from the Santa Justa Lift so right in the center of tourist central. It was a ton of fun. What I'm saying is once you leave those areas its run down and a surprising amount of the city was built in the 50s in this modernist style. Reminded me of being back in Seoul where you'd go to their main palace and the tour guide says "this is a replica, the Japanese burned the real thing down twice so we had to build this".

I would be very interested in reading this. It’s a place I’ve prelim been looking into. Not sure how long to stay there or if better booking another destination for half of the trip. Did you go marlin fishing there?

I've never been, but I think Portugal should be an underrated winter destination. Days are still reasonably long, weather is nice enough, and its not going to be busy.

Portugal is not a big country. So I think that's one of the reasons its not visited a lot, nor does it have a lot of great flight options from the states. Not terrible options, just not a lot of directs.
