If you are able to do that, then do it!

But if not, you will need to get in the line at the International Arrivals Building at IAH, then you will have to get in the line to re-clear security at IAH. Sometimes it's a breeze, sometimes it's a drag. You just never know.

Check flightstats to see what terminal/gates your flights have come in and flown out of in the past few days. That'll give you a fair idea. Usually the terminal remains the same. Gate may remain the same depending on the equipment (need special gates for 747s, A380s). So if you're on one of those, gate will most likely be the same too.

ETA: Also make sure who operates the flight. Is it a United operated flight or an Air Canada operated flight? AC flights are more likely to fly out of the same gates too.

Even after all this - If United sold you this ticket as 1, they will bring you to your destination as soon as they can, regardless.

If he's arriving into the B terminal on United Express, and then heading over to D for Air Canada it will be a tight connection. It is doable, but everyone has to be on time.

If it is an Air Canada regional jet, it may also be departing from B. I've seen their planes over there before.

The flights from AEX will be small regional jets, so if you gate checked your bag, that will add more time to the transfer.

Anytime I've flown to/from BR airport, if I have anything bigger than a small backpack...I have NO CHOICE but to gate check it.

I once had to wait 15 minutes in Houston on a layover for them to get all the gate checked bags to the front for us to grab. Thankfully I had a 3 hour layover so time wasn't an issue to me...but others were getting upset/worried about making their connecting flight because of the delay.

Both flights, arriving and departing are United.
What's the chance that I don't have to chance terminals?
I'm worried about my checked bad making the switch also.
I have had two lately not make the connection home.

What is the flight # to canada? The RJ from alexandria will come into terminal B 99% of the time, I'm guessing you're on an A319/320 or B737/8/9 up to canada which all leave out of terminal C or E. If you're on an ERJ 170/175 those normally also leave out of B

Aren't they gonna check your bags through to your destination? Again, possible only if flying on 1 airline.

Actually I think United flies an Embraer or CRJ to Toronto. Either way, it's easy to look up the gate the flight typically leaves from.
