Is a 36 minute layover enough to get to your next flight in time?

Looking at my itinerary. After the plane lands in Houston, my next flight takes off in 36 minutes.

Anyone ever been in this situation?

I had back to back layovers 30 and 40 min on my last flight. I was very lucky with no delays. My gates were 2 gates apart and 5 gates apart. I exited the plane and boarded the next immediately. Not much room for error

Are you doing a domestic-international flight or domestic to domestic? If domestic-international no way I'd do that. For flights within the us I'd have no problems with that. All it means is you'll have to hurry through the airport and hope everything is on time. If it's not you'll get rebooked on the next flight with available seats

I did it with a 4 year old, so yes. I'm assuming domestic. Sit in the front of the plane.

You can get from any gate to any other gate in 15-20 minutes max at IAH as long as it doesn't involve immigration / customs. Just don't make any stops.

Yes but I'd only consider it on a domestic to domestic flight. Preference to the arriving flight being a mainline jet that you do not have to gate check a larger rollerboard.

domestic-international I believe is a no go. To fly internationally, you normally have to be on board 30 minutes before departure. This may have changed, but my international flights have required being on board 30 minutes before departure. Now, not many international flights depart on time, so you may have a chance

That has nothing to do with it. The reason we're suggesting a longer cx time for Dom-Intl is because there's typically a limited number of flights/day. Often just one. So missing that flight means a 24 hour delay.

Did you book your flights with the 36 minute layover or was there a schedule change where United changed your flights? If it was a schedule change that you didn't know about until just now, call United and have them put you on an earlier domestic flight. All you need to say is you're not comfortable with such a short domestic-international connection after the schedule change.

If you're the one who booked these flights, godspeed

LAX, Frankfurt, Kuala Lumpur definitely no. Places like Detroit where they match the gates and flights pretty well yes. If you coming in and have to go through Immigration somewhere probably no. I like to have around 2 hours if possible. You do not have to hurry. Go to Toilet and grab a sandwich and coffee and relax a little. If you doing like a Trinidad to Miami to LAX to Hong Kong no need to worry. You will arrive at LAX at about 3 PM and your flight will leave at Midnight. Go to Sports Bar, eat and drink.

I booked it without looking at the layover. It was my fault. I called cheapoair to change and they said there's a 300 dollar penalty.

Seems like I have 3 options:
1. Roll with it
2. Book another flight to Houston
3. Drive to Houston

If everything is on time you should be fine, might have to run a little depending on which airport , Houston is generally ok

ATL, Dallas forget about it

I routinely book 35-40 minute connections in ATL and have no issue making the next leg of the flight.

FWIW, if you miss your first flight to Houston the airline will cancel your entire trip. Unless, I believe, you bought 2 tickets separately-a one way to Houston, and a one way from Houston to your next destination.

I'd call back and ask why the frick they even allow you to have that short a window for domestic to international.

Also, you should spend the money to get the flight changed up. By the time you drive to Houston and pay to park you'll spend nearly that much anyway.

Well, I looked for an earlier flight from BR to Houston International. It's around 300. My two options that I've thought of:

1. Take a greyhound the day before(around $14). Spend it at a friend's house and he takes me to the airport. I would owe him huge.

2. Rent a car from BR and drop it off at Houston airport. Rental + gas = $130.

No way I'm driving my car to Houston, pay for parking, and then have to drive back to BR on the way back.

The driving to Houston won't work. The remainder of your trip is cancelled if you miss a leg of the flight.

Call United again. Ask to speak with a supervisor about the MCT (minimum connection time) at IAH. Is the international destination in North America?

wait, so did you ask how much it is to change the time of the first flight? typically that's closer to 150 or 200. and if you tell them you're concerned about connection time, they may lessen the fee.
