How far out is "too far out" to stay for the playoff game?

I have no idea about Atlanta traffic -- could save good bit if we stay NOT in the downtown area (we need two rooms). Just not sure if it'll be worth the hassle of driving in and parking? Anyone with experience, thanks in advance.

Stay somewhere where you can take the MARTA.

MARTA. Stay somewhere along 400 up to Sandy Springs or in downtown Decatur. That will allow you to easily hop on MARTA and make your way in and out.

Are you flying or driving? If you fly and stay downtown, you can walk everywhere and won’t need to pay for a rental or parking. Might end up being cheaper.

I wouldn't stay any further out than Midtown. Find a place walking distance to a MARTA.

Echoing what everyone says about Marta. It's awesome for gamedays.
You can stay in Buckhead, Midtown, or Downtown and be walking distance. The Marta stop for the Benz/State Farm Arena drops you off literally on the door step of SFA, across the lawn of the Benz.
Pro-Tip: Instead of getting off at the Stadium stop, get off at 5 points and walk to Park Bar, right across the street from Centenial Olympic Park. One of my favorites pre or post Hawks game, or the occasion where I don't feel like tailgating for the Dirty Birds.

Wife and I are staying at the W Midtown. Any bar recommendations for watching the 12:00 bowl games before heading to MBS Stadium?
We would like to stay close to the hotel before we head towards the stadium. First time visiting Atlanta.

Hudson Grill is not far, and is right next to the MARTA station. Never had the food there, but have watched games there. It's about 2 blocks from what I remember.
The Nook is really close as well. Another place I've only gone for a drink or two, so no idea about the food.
There's also a bar right next to the W, but I forget the name.

Thanks! Was looking at Hudson and Taco Mac. Both places had similar type reviews.

I enjoy both places but they're both chains and fairly generic, neither is going to knock your socks off. Taco Mac is known for their wings and beer, and for a generic kinda place (they're sort of like a buffalo wild wings) they do have a pretty expansive beer selection. Hudson grill is similar but less "sports bar-y".
Either one is a perfectly fine place to catch games and grab a beer and a meal.

McCrays is closer to both Taco Mac and Hudson and is better IMO. All three are sort of "suburban Atlanta chains" but not to the extent of a true chain. Taco Mac is great for beer selection and TVs but I just do not like the food and it can get a little trashy.
Establishment is near you and they have some TVs and it's more of a true local place. Not sure it's great for game watching but would likely work. The Nook suggestion is good, I like it there and never go for some reason. Fado is down the street and is probably a little more interesting than Hudson and the like.
Park Tavern is another option on the park. It can be a pain (busy) but it'd be a very "Atlanta" thing to try. Cypress Street is much smaller than the others but it's not too far and has good food/beer.

Appreciate all of the suggestions. 
Just looking for pregame beers, TV's and maybe some wings before we head to the game. McCray's appears to fit the bill. Whatever is the least crowded between Taco Mac/Hudson/McCray's we will probably do.

Hudson Grill is good. I would try to get there early and get a good spot. It will fill up when the game day crowds get there

I've got a room at TownePlace Suites in Buckhead that is no longer needed.

It is but still easily walkable. 2-3 blocks down from Hudson, etc.

I recommended in the other thread but was down voted.
Stay on the east west line, specifically Decatur. You wont have to change trains for the game which is an added benefit and there is a lot to do on the square
