Every other year we do a Customer appreciation/technical conference. We done Vegas, Tahoe, Beau Rivage, Mohegan Sun and others and have decided to do NOLA this October. The Hilton and Harrahs are the options, as we have always done them, and want to continue, with the casino environment.

My question is...as far as those two hotels are concerned, which is the best for meetings rooms, bars, restaurants, pools etc. I am familiar with Dragos but I have never been in any other part of the Hilton and have never been in Harrahs.

About 200 people and we usually block 100-150 rooms.

Thanks

Did you verify that Harrahs could give you that big a block of rooms? It's not that big. I thought it was only like 200-250 rooms total.

The Hilton Riverside will have many more options for meeting rooms, etc. and the bar is much bigger. I would guess the price would be quite a bit lower too.

Harrahs is about $20/night wed/thur, but $60 more for Fri. Are there bars/resturants inside the Harrahs hotel property or do you have to go to the casino area?

We do Mardi Gras ball every year at the Hilton but I have never found anything special about it. Always felt like a "beer and badge" type place. I attended a conference at The Westin Canal Place and was very pleasantly surprised by the quality of the rooms, food,AV equipment and the meeting rooms. If you can get a corner room facing the river from one window and the quarter from the other it is a great view.

Sheraton, just a few blocks down has a lot of convention space and is a very large hotel.

I went to a trade convention for a few days there.

Bump...

...added safety question. The majority stakeholder in our organization has safety concerns in general about coming to NOLA, but lets us determine, location, content, entertainment etc.. My question, how safe are semi-drunken, attendees going to be walking from Harrahs to the Hilton 9pm -2ish?

Thanks again.

Not a problem in that area of NOLA and it is a very short walk.

I stayed at the Hilton Riverside earlier this month. Everything and all the staff were acceptable to very good. It was a group of ~150 persons from all over the country. Everyone I spoke to enjoyed themselves and were happy with the Hilton.

Observation: The decor & architecture are locked in 1982. Luckily it was a (for the time) tastefully executed 1982 motif but I'd forgotten how little the facility has changed since it was built. Hilton really did a good job spec'ing and building that property for it to have aged that well.

The Riverside is totally set up for corporate events, the rooms are a good size and quiet. The Riverwalk is attached also. Besides Drago's there are plenty of other restaurant options within walking distance

Hilton riverside is not one of my favorite hotels, but it's good for a large conference, it can definitely accommodate your group. I'd definitely have the conference there instead of Harrah's, it's literally across the street. Like others have said, there's easy access to other attractions as well(shopping, aquarium, restaurants, etc).

thanks to all for the info...I am thinking of having a jazz quartet playing at our welcome reception...kind of light backround music...where should I have my folks start looking?

Thanks again.

Hotel can probably set up or assist you.

I am sure we will inquire with Hilton, but the Beau Rivage could only come up with a piano player or a harpist, 6 years ago.

Although, they knocked it out of the park on the welcome reception on the outdoor deck overlooking the Mississippi sound. Fresh shucked oyster, boiled shrimp, sauteed crab claws etc...the folks from outside of the deep south talk about to this day.
The day before I took out some key account guys live bait fishing, then brought the catch to Mary Mahoneys and had them cook it up for us. Homerun.
