Of course the chances of getting blown up over there are extremely small, but I'd be lying if I said I wouldn't reschedule the trip for somewhere else. Not suggestimg you do that, because you'll be fine over there, and Istanbul is awesome, but I personally would just be on the edge too much to relax.
This sucks though. fricking terrorists

I hate to cancel but three attacks this year alone is a bit much. The city isn't going anywhere. I can easily wait for it to cool off until next year.

Maybe do somewhere like Croatia instead? Should be pretty nice I'd think.

Not really sure. Planning a vacation is actually a stressful process for me. I'd love to take advantage of Brexit prices.

Ah figured you might want to stay on the Med.
The pound really hasn't moved as much as reported. It got bid up before the vote, hence the 30% fall. Rougly was $1.40, bid up to 1.50, now down to $1.33 or so.
Not exactly going to be cheap to go there.

My first bit of searching around is confirming what you're saying.

On the other side of the coin, it's probably only going to get worse in the future, so now may be the time to go

Man, I'm a little (more the fiancee than me) worried to be honest.
We are trying to finalize our honeymoon to the Maldives and have a connection in turkey. Not a stopover, but just a 9 hour layover.
I know there are risks everywhere, but it seems like flying through this part of the world is riskier than other parts right now.
Would you guys postpone or schedule somewhere else?

The riskiest time right now should be during Ramadan. I know, for me, the risks are low but three attacks this year is a bit much. This attack happened on the exit ramp where there is very little security. I'm sure you guys planned to hit a tourist site though.
Posted on 6/29/16 at 12:24 pm to jmarto1
No, we wont ever leave the airport likely. The layover is on the middle of the night. So my logic is, we'll be in the safest place in turkey. Past airport security. The risk would be flying through there or around that area in general.
This would be in October, so no Ramadan.

I have a lengthy layover in October, and I'm not changing a thing.

That how I'm leaning, but also don't want to peak the fiancees anxiety either...

If I'm not leaving the airport then I wouldn't be too worried.
You probably have better odds of being home during a gas leak that kills your whole family.

Oh yea, I cancelled. I honestly was going to get a policy with Global Rescue if I decided to go. If you guys haven't heard of them, they have plans for medical and security extraction. For 14 days I would have medical and security coverage for $315. In this case, they would have sent someone to get me out.

Medical Membership Global Rescue's critical care paramedics, in-house physicians and Johns Hopkins specialists are standing by to advise you for injuries and illnesses sustained while traveling. If you need inpatient hospitalization or emergency care to prevent serious and permanent injury, we will perform a field rescue and evacuate you from your location to your home country hospital of choice. Security Membership Global Rescue's security experts, many of whom are military special operations veterans, are prepared to extract, protect and safely repatriate our security members if they face imminent grievous bodily harm from events such as natural disasters, terrorist attacks, political unrest or if there is a government declaration to evacuate. Hell it might be worth going just to get extracted out. A story like that is better than a normal vacation, the memories would last a lifetime...

Now that would be a story for the ages. You could up-one anybody at a party. "Well, I was there during the coup!" Something cool about being "extracted."
