Need to get to times square.

It's $60 cheaper than to fly to laGuardia, but is it worth it?

It seems like it may be a more expensive taxi/time

Thanks

Yes, I prefer Newark to LaGuardia. Quicker to midtown Manhattan every time I've done it.

Shuttles are usually about the same. Never tried taxi.

How much are shuttles, and what should I expect to pay for tolls?

thx

Cheapest option is to fly into Newark and take the train for $13. Brings you right to Penn St. and doesn't really take any more time than a cab.

Not familiar with the area/subway. Is the train a safe alternative?

yes, take the AirTrain to New Jersey Airport station, then take train to Penn Station. its about 10 blocks to time square. About 45 minutes total if no issues

On your way back you might consider a car service for timeliness. Dial 7

All are safe as far as crime if that is what you are referring to

It cost us about $40 to Uber from La Guardia to Lower East Side and took 30 minutes at 9pm with very little traffic. If you are arriving during the day, traffic will be much worse and so the train from Newark is the best option.

My dtr and I use the subway during our trip last summer ... She had it figured out before my brain could process what I was reading. Never felt unsafe -- even after the Yankees lost and we were headed back to our hotel.

Yes it is safe. It is not the subway. Almost impossible not to take a nap during the ride

I like EWR since I can take a train into Manhattan rather than dealing with Taxi

Ive looked into taking the train from the airport to Manhattan, but have had terrible luck finding it. Is it part of the NYC subway system or is it something else?

The NYC Subway system is only in NYC. The Newark Airport has an AirTrain system (think Disney World monorail). That will take you to the NJ Transit train station, which will consist of commuter trains that take you into Manhattan, at which point you'll be able to cab, walk, subway, uber to your destination.

It's pretty straight forward and generally very safe at most hours of the day/night.

If you are going to Times Square, Newark is a much better option, and the fact that its cheaper is a complete no-brainer.

Take the train from Newark to NY Penn-Station (~30min / ~$13), which is super easy. Then you are only one subway stop away (34th / NY Penn to 42nd Times Square).
