Guanacaste region of Costa Rica

Anyone with insight on what area to stay in the Guanacaste region. We are looking at VRBO and trying to decide on where to rent for a week. Tamarindo, Playa Avallanas or Playa Flamingo are the main spots we have found rentals with good reviews. A lot of the condos available to rent in the area look nice but have no reviews, which makes us hesitant. Also, any insight on tours or things we should see in the area is greatly appreciated.

We're heading to Punta Islita in May...don't know much more about it yet. I'll post anything I find here.

Rent a car and go spend a night at Arenal. It's neat to watch that volcano at night.

Just stayed here a few weeks ago in Tamarindo: LINK
A lot of places in Tamarindo aren't right on the beach. Hotel Diria is if you want a resort type of condo. But most houses on vrbo or airbnb are usually a short walk away. The house i just linked is about a 10 minute walk or so to the beach.
